Weekend in Hong Kong 3/3: Police shoot rubber bullets and tear gas

Despite the public concern over police excessive use of force, police fire pepper spray pellets, rubber bullets and tear gas grenades to disperse gathering citizens in Prince Edward.

Among the injured citizens, a woman had her left eye injured by a rubber bullet.

Note: The 831 incident referred to an attack at Prince Edward Station by police officers after a March in Kowloon on the August 31, where the Police beat up passengers, journalists, protestors and civilians alike.

Some even suspected murder, prompting many to set up an altar at the MTR exits, which is often cleared up by the riot police or pro-china citizens. Despite the popular demand, the MTR company refused to release any footages about the incident, who started to close stops for the transportation of police officers after the incident. This led to widespread dissatisfaction in the public, and eventually the arson of MTR stations.

Korean Media (KBS) Documentary Investigates Hong Kong “Suicides,” and Anonymously Interviews Police

Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN2ffGtP9hA

Korean network KBS released a documentary programme investigating the Hong Kong movement. They have managed to interview some HKPF police officers anonymously. Starting from 721 Yuen Long incident, the interviewee said that the “hour with no police” was ordered by higher-ups, “who believed that the people did not care for the police, so they wanted to create a situation where the police needed to intervene but wouldn’t.” Regarding the sexual cases, the interviewee revealed that, “the actual number of incidents is quite larger” than the two currently being investigated.

The Security Bureau has revealed that from June to September, the police has received 256 cases of suicides; the number of bodies found, and those who died on their way to hospital and in hospital totaled at 2,537. Over 122 days, 2928 hours and 2,793 bodies, a body has been found dead in Hong Kong every 0.95 hours.

Once a dead body has been found, Hong Kong citizens have been rushing to collect evidence and find witnesses. Over in Tai O, for example, KBS tried to make it to the scene, but was blocked by police. A villager note, “No one just dies for no reason, and then [the police] just acts as if nothing happened.”

The UK expressed deep concern over the Hong Kong Protests and said it is "fully committed to upholding Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy and rights and freedoms underpinned by the legally binding Joint Declaration of 1984 and the "One Country, Two Systems" framework set out in the Hong Kong Basic Law.

The UK will support peaceful resolution to calm the ongoing violence in Hong Kong, it has prohibited exporting crowd management equipment to HK since 25-Jun, regularly raise concerns directly to both Hong Kong Chief Executive, Carrie Lam and Chinese Foreign Minister, State Councillor, Wang Yi, meet with the Chinese Ambassador in London and raised HK in national statement in the United Nations and with other counterparts, including the US, Australia, Canada and Europe.

Last but not least, the UK is now researching on the best support for the BN(O)s holder on their rights and status, which it believes the high degree of autonomy and rights and freedoms set out in the Joint Declaration and enshrined in the Basic Law must be upheld.

(Editor's Note: The collaboration with counterparts corresponds with the #HKHRDA, which stresses that the U.S. government will “coordinate with allies, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, to promote democracy and human rights in Hong Kong”.)
