🇺🇸 Kīlauea Volcano Eruption Update — April 8, 2025
🌋The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reports that Episode 17 of the ongoing Kīlauea eruption commenced on April 7, 2025, at 10:15 p.m. HST. The south vent within Halemaʻumaʻu crater is exhibiting continuous lava fountains reaching heights of approximately 100 feet (30 meters), feeding active lava flows on the crater floor. Notably, this episode has featured lower fountain heights compared to previous events.
🔥 Geologists from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory have observed that, unlike recent episodes characterized by taller fountains, the current activity includes sustained low-level fountaining accompanied by summit deflation. This pattern is atypical, as previous episodes with summit deflation often led to significantly higher lava fountains.
All volcanic activity remains confined within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, with no immediate threat to residential areas. However, hazards such as volcanic gas emissions and windblown volcanic glass (Pele’s Hair) may affect the park and nearby communities.

🇺🇸 Lava Returns to Kīlauea!
🌋A new episode of the ongoing eruption at Kīlauea Volcano in Hawai‘i, USA, began early in the morning on April 22, with lava fountains lighting up the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater once again.
🔥 At 3:20 AM local time, lava began overflowing the southern crater, followed by powerful fountains erupting from both the southern and northern vents just minutes later. The fountains are reaching impressive heights—over 650 feet (200 meters) in the south and 160 feet (50 meters) in the north!
🌋 Lava is now actively covering around 20% of the crater floor, creating a spectacular, glowing landscape. This eruption was triggered by a rapid drop in underground pressure, which also caused small earthquakes in the area.

🇺🇸 Kilauea Eruption: Spectacular Lava Fountains in Hawaii
🗓 On May 25, 2025, the 23rd eruptive episode began at the Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor of Kilauea Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth.
🌋 The eruption started at around 4:15 PM local time at the northern vent, which initially showed minimal signs of activity. By 4:50 PM, however, it was producing powerful dome-shaped lava fountains reaching heights of over 1,000 feet (around 300 meters).
🔥 At approximately 5:15 PM, the southern vent also became active, though with less intense fountains rising to about 230 feet (70 meters).
According to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), the situation remains dynamic and is being closely monitored. Further changes in activity are possible in the coming hours or days.

🇺🇸 Yellowstone — Minor Eruption at Black Diamond Pool
🌋 On May 31 at 8:39 p.m. MDT, a new webcam captured a small eruption at Black Diamond Pool, a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park, USA. This site was previously the location of a hydrothermal explosion on July 23, 2024.
⚠️ According to the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory's (YVO) monthly update released on June 2, 2025, activity in the area remains at background levels, with no cause for concern.
