RAMAḌHĀN MAY HAVE COME TO AN END, BUT THE FASTING CONTINUES...

Imām Muslim -raḥimahullāh- reported in his Ṣaḥīḥ (1164) from the ḥadīth of Abū Ayyūb Al-Ansarī -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhu- that the Prophet ﷺ said:

((‏من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه بست من شوال كان كصيام الدهر))

"Whoever fasts Ramaḍhān and then follows it with six days of Shawwāl will be (rewarded) as if he had fasted the entire year."

How does fasting 1 month + 6 days equate to fasting an entire year?

The scholars explained that good deeds are multipled tenfolds based on Allāh's saying:

{مَن جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ عَشۡرُ أَمۡثَالِهَا}

“Whoever comes with a good deed will be rewarded tenfold.”
[Sūrah Al-An‘ām 160]

That means:
1 month x 10 = 10 months

6 days x 10 = 60 days (2 months)

10 + 2 (months) = 12 months (1 year).

Sheikh Ṣāliḥ Ibn ‘Uthaimīn -raḥimahullāh- was asked the following question:

Many people say, fasting the six days of Shawwāl must begin straight after ‘Eid, otherwise there is no benefit if one does not begin fasting straight after ‘Eid, and the same if they're not done in succession. Please advise us?

The Sheikh answered:

There's no problem if one begins fasting the six days of Shawwāl straight after ‘Eid or delays it until the last part of the month (Shawwāl), and the same goes whether it is done in succession or sporadically. But what is important is that a person begins once they have completed the fasting of Ramaḍhān, so if a person has days to make up, he should prioritise that over fasting the six days of Shawwāl.

A reminder for those who may be fasting the 6 days of Shawwaal, or other than it. Don't miss out on this great reward, even if you only drink some water.

Do you not want Allaah to praise you and the Angels to seek forgiveness for you?

Tafseer Ibn Katheer

"I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I design for you out of clay, a figure like that of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave."

[Tafseer]: These are the miracles that Isa performed; he used to make the shape of a bird from clay and blow into it, and it became a bird by Allah's leave. Allah made this a miracle for Isa to testify that He had sent him.

"And I heal him who is Akmah,"

[Tafseer]: meaning, a person who was born blind,' which perfects this miracle and makes the challenge more daring.

"And the leper,"

which is a known disease.

"And I bring the dead to life by Allah's leave."

[Tafseer]: Many scholars stated that Allah sent every Prophet with a miracle suitable to his time.

For instance, in the time of Musa, magic was the trade of the time, and magicians held a high position. So Allah sent Musa with a miracle that captured the eyes and bewildered every magician. When the magicians realized that Musa's miracle came from the Almighty, Most Great, they embraced Islam and became pious believers.

As for Isa, he was sent during a time when medicine and knowledge in physics were advancing. Isa brought them the types of miracles that could not be performed, except by one sent by Allah. How can any physician bring life to clay, cure blindness and leprosy and bring back to life those entrapped in the grave!

Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) was sent during the time of eloquent people and proficient poets. He brought them a Book from Allah; if mankind and the Jinn tried to imitate ten chapters, or even one chapter of it, they will utterly fail in this task, even if they tried to do it by collective cooperation. This is because the Qur'an is the Word of Allah and is nothing like that of the creatures.

`Isa's statement,

"And I inform you of what you eat, and what you store in your houses,"

means, I tell you about what one of you has just eaten and what he is keeping in his house for tomorrow.

Have Patience

Allaah Is With The Patient Ones

O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).

[Al-Quraan 2:153]

Patience Is At The First Strike Of A Calamity

- Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, passed by a woman who was weeping next to a grave. The Prophet, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said (translated meaning), “Be mindful of Allaah and be patient.” She said, “Go away from me! You have not been afflicted by a calamity like mine,” and she did not recognize him. Then, she was told that it was the Prophet, so she went to the Prophet’s house and she did not find any guards there. She said to him, “I did not recognize you.” The Prophet, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said, “Verily, patience is at the first strike.”

Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, No. 1283, and Saheeh Muslim, No. 926

The Best Way Of Living Is Through Patience

- 'Umar Ibnul-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with him:

"أفضل عيش أدركناه بالصبر ولو أن الصبر كان من الرجال كان كريماً."

"The most excellent way of living we attained was through patience, and if patience was from men, he would be honorable."

Ibn Abee Dunyaa, The Book Of Patience, Pg. 6

Supplication For Patience

"Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience and make us victorious over the disbelieving people."

[Al-Quraan 2:250]

May Allaah make us from the patient ones.

Umm Kulthuum, the daughter of Abuu Bakr, reported that 'Aaishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, said, "The Prophet, salallaahu' alayhi wa sallam, came to me while I was praying when he needed something. I was taking a long time and he said, ' 'Aaishah, you must make the comprehensive supplication.' When I finished, I asked, 'Messenger of Allaah, what is the comprehensive supplication?' He said, 'Say:

O Allaah, I ask You for all good, both sooner and later, what I know of it and what I do not know. I seek refuge with You from all evil, both sooner and later, what I know of it and what I do not know. I ask You for the Paradise and whatever words or actions bring one near to it. I seek refuge with You from the Fire and whatever words or actions bring one near to it. I ask You for what Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam asked You for and I seek refuge with You from what Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam sought refuge from, and whatever fate You have decreed for me, make its end right guidance.'"

From the Hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with them.

Some have said this is for when going to the Fajr prayer due to that being mentioned in the Hadeeth, and some have said it can be said when going for all prayers. It has also been narrated that the Du'aa was also said in the prayer, and in prostration, and Allaah knows best.

And now people are spreading 'do a global tahajjud' around as if committing bidah is going to help them. Rather it's going to make things worse for us. Sins (bidah being a major sin) only make things worse for the ummah. Repentance and doing good deeds (sincerely for Allaah Alone and in accordance to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is what will aid the ummah and bring around victory. This is why having basic knowledge of the fundamentals of the religion is vital. May Allaah guide us to what is pleasing to Him and grant us victory. Allaah knows best.
