🇷🇺🇺🇦 | Russian forces captured the settlements of Komyshivka, Novozhelanne and Zavitne on the Pokrovsk front in Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine, according to a new DeepState map update.

The Russians are now less than 1 kilometer away from the E50 road, linking Pokrovsk and Karlivka.

RT @heatloss1986: This is the same fallacy that many fall into: the cheaper unit that can be produced in greater quantity is better than the expensive unit.
In saving cost, you sacrifice on capability. At some point, the lost capability makes the unit so ineffective that the cost is irrelevant. 🧵 https://twitter.com/ycombinator/status/1826063947981885805#m

@NagelNilson: They have designs, the problem is maturing them and producing at relevant scale. Ukraine's defense industry has a lot of systemic challenges that are preventing them from doing that.

@BrianKearin: We're not talking about cratering runways. That does not achieve anything. We're talking about destroying magazines and possibly the aircraft themselves.

@cjn60: They say the exact same thing on the record too.

@Captain_Fubar: The Ukrainians aren't looking to crater the runways. They want to use Unitary ATACMS to destroy ammo magazines & APAM ATACMS to target the aircraft.

@paulmcleary: The DoD's failure to successfully execute any of their hypersonics programs has less to do with technology and more to do with managerial incompetence.

RT @Tatarigami_UA: Around August 16th, a video circulated on Telegram, showing a Ukrainian soldier's severed head on a pole, reportedly filmed by a member of the 155th Brigade. This should be seen not just as an isolated act of cruelty but as part of a larger, systematic approach.

RT @warnerta: Ukraine's Kursk incursion hasn't yet seized strategic territory or forced much redirection from Ukraine. But it's boosting morale, gnawing at Putin's credibility, and netting POWs from the mostly low-quality forces Putin sends instead. Dan's collecting these in multiple threads: https://twitter.com/Danspiun/status/1826349012229689846#m

🇺🇸🇺🇦 The Biden Admin is required by law (5th Ukraine Supplemental) to present Congress w/ a detailed strategy outlining how the United States will support Ukraine to defeat Russia.

It still hasn't been provided, over 10 weeks past the deadline to submit. Congress isn't happy.

“The Biden-Harris administration’s ‘support’ for Ukraine has given the embattled nation just enough to survive but not enough to win,” House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman @RepMcCaul said in a statement provided to Foreign Policy. “Time and time again, weapons viewed by the administration as too provocative were later provided. Without a clear strategy for victory in Ukraine, the administration is likely to continue down the same path, prolonging Putin’s war of aggression and signalling U.S. weakness to our other adversaries, including communist China.”

“This abdication of leadership, combined with numerous missed op...

@andriyhaydash: This is a classic example of Ukrainian media completely misinterpreting US government information products because they don't even bother to read them, and instead rely on horrendous machine translations of American media stories about what those products actually say.

@UA_SpaceMarine: It's not my article, will tag @JackDetsch though.

Yes, Ukraine has not been provided with $175 million in aid. That's anti-ukraine misinformation. $174.2 million is the amount of total appropriations from all 5 supplementals, but only a fraction of that is aid for Ukraine.

As I told everyone when the Supplemental passed in April, this is a meaningless clause that the Biden Admin can ignore. People who thought this would achieve anything were wishcasting. Unsurprisingly, Congressional Democrats are silent on this.

@timothys00: McCaul, Wicker & Risch all voted for the Supplementals and have been pushing for more military aid since day one.
