If you ask for #COBie please make sure you ask for a QC report to go with the file. If you don’t, just delete the file as soon as you receive it and save yourself the pain of trying to actually use it.
Saw a COBie file today that had been handed over at the end of a project to a client that had almost 20,000 errors when run through the QC reporter. #CrapCOBie

BS8541–1:2012 really should refer to ‘product type naming’ rather than ‘object naming’. Too many get confused that this standard is how to name objects in authoring tools when it’s really about consistent naming outputs (including for BS1192-4).

There is much debate across the surveying sector on the use of BIM and how it can generate greater efficiencies throughout an asset’s lifecycle, and none more so than the discussions coming out of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
In July this year, RICS published The future of BIM: Digital transformation in the UK construction and infrastructure sector paper, which provides insight into the progressive implementation of BIM in the UK, charting the continued development and transition of standards to the ISO series. In this article, Kishore Machnoor looks at the findings of the paper and what steps we as an industry must to take to ensure the surveyors of the future have the digital skills they need.
