AMU along with UNODC and EU to Enhance Access to Justice with Budget of USD 79,500

Arba Minch University (AMU) School of Law has been selected by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the European Union (EU) to implement a significant project aimed at improving access to justice within the criminal justice system. This collaborative initiative will provide crucial free legal aid services to vulnerable populations in the region including the poor, women, and other marginalized groups.

The primary objective of this impactful project is to dismantle barriers to justice and ensure that all individuals regardless of their socio-economic status have access to legal representation and support. By offering free legal aid, the AMU School of Law along with UNODC and the EU seeks to empower individuals navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system and uphold their fundamental rights.

Beyond direct legal aid services, the project also incorporates a vital component focused on raising legal awareness among a broad segment of society; campaigns will aim to educate the public about their rights, legal procedures, and available resources fostering a more informed and legally empowered citizenry.

AMU School of Law's expertise and dedication combined with the resources and support of UNODC and the EU will create a powerful synergy to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and contribute to a more equitable justice system in the region.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime, was established in 1997 through a merger of the United Nations Drug Control Programme and the Centre for International Crime Prevention and operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices. The European Union (EU) is also a unique economic and political partnership between 27 European countries and has delivered peace, prosperity and security for over six decades. UNODC and EU will fund the project’s budget of USD 79,500.
