Despite the fact that it's impossible to take exams in Russia, a lot of people still continue preparing for IELTS and any other exams. I know that it's tough to take them, even psychologically. And I always try to support my students 🤍

I also want to share with you some pieces of advice which can help you in your preparation and ease the tension before taking any exam.

1⃣ Revise those grammar topics which are the most challenging for you. Practice them regularly and use them in your writing/speaking speech.

2⃣ Boost your vocabulary by reading (books, articles, news), watching films, news and listening to the radio and podcasts. You can also find a lot of ideas for your essays there.

3⃣ Learn to feel the time. Set an alarm/timer and do tasks within the time allotted for them at the exam.

4⃣ Revise an essay/letter or any other composition structure which is relevant for your exam.

6⃣ Don't panic and be calm when you take the speaking part. Try to imagine that you're talking to an ordinary person like you.

Save this list of advice and I wish good luck to anyone who is going to take the exams soon! 🍀

If you want to prepare for exams with me, you can fill in this form. I will have some free spots in September as a couple of my students are going to take IELTS.

So, I'm starting my series of posts dedicated to self-preparation for exams 📚

Step 1

1️⃣ Decide on an exam you want to take (FCE, CAE, IELTS or whatever). If you're going to do IELTS, check out which score you need to achieve your goal.

2️⃣ Check your current English level. And it's not only about grammar and vocabulary but also about speaking and writing. For the latter ones, you will need a tutor who can assess your skills. And yes, it's really important, especially if you have a lack of practice.

3️⃣ Decide on an exam date and think if it's possible to achieve your goal within the given period of time.

4️⃣ Plan your studying. How many days a week you're going to study and how many hours, which book you need for your preparation, etc.

5️⃣ Don't forget to track your progress. As for me, I had a table where I wrote down my result for each part. I do the same now for my students.

6️⃣ Find someone who can check your speaking/writing tasks. I'll write about this point in more detail later.

You can use this post as a check-list when you start your preparation 😁

Подкаст на тему: как эффективно учить лексику

1. учить в контексте (никаких заучиваний списков)
2. использование mind-maps
3. писать значение, а не перевод
4. писать максимально живые примеры
5. практика и как я организую ученикам челленджи

Today’s post is about IELTS Reading strategies. I want to touch on one of the tasks which is quite challenging for a lot of candidates.

What does this task look like? You have a text and a short summary with gaps which must be completed with one word only.

How to do this task?
1️⃣ Read the summary carefully paying attention to each gap and what goes before and after it. It can help you understand at least which part of speech you need to use.
2️⃣ Read the text once again and find the information you need.
3️⃣ Find the appropriate word to complete a sentence.
