Hello activists,
today a new Amnesty report on the judiciary in Poland was published.
It finds, that the Polish government is severely restricting the independence of the judiciary. Judges are being investigated for defending the freedom of speech and cannot do their jobs properly.
To raise awareness of this important issue, please like and share our posts on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/EuropeanAmnestyYouth), twitter and (https://twitter.com/AmnestyDE_EU) instagram (https://www.instagram.com/european_amnesty_youth/).

Joint civil society letter abortion bill Slovakia.PDF
59.7 KB
Dear all,
you may have heard, that in Slovakia a bill to restrict access to abortion is currently being debated.
Amnesty sees this as a significant threat to women´s rights in Slovakia.
We are hence calling on members of the Slovak parliament to reject the bill. The vote is likely to be on the 28th September, so this coming Monday.
If you can, please send a message to Slovak MPs, specifically the following, asking them to vote against the bill
Speaker of Parliament Mr. Boris Kollár (Sme): boris.kollar@nrsr.sk
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mr. Gábor Grendel (OLANO): gabor.grendel@nrsr.sk
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mr. Juraj Šeliga (Za Ľudí): jurajseliga@nrsr.sk

An example message could be:
I respectfully ask you, considering the open letter, to make every effort to ensure that the Slovak Parliament votes against this retrograde bill and refrains from further attempts to restrict reproductive rights in Slovakia.
The open letter will be the following:
Thanks for participating
Nicolas
Hello,
Some weeks ago we asked you to take part in an action to prevent further restrictions of the abortion laws in Slovakia.
After a final vote on the law did not take place in September, because the vote was boycotted by opponents of the law, the vote will take place this week, probably on Tuesday or Wednesday. We would therefore ask you to participate again in the attached Urgent Action.

As a reminder, the law provides for measures, some of which are not medically justified, such as extending the prescribed waiting and application period before an abortion can be claimed and demanding reasons for the abortion. In addition, a second medical opinion will be required in future in the event of an abortion for health reasons. These measures are directed against the health and well-being of the persons concerned by restricting access to timely legal abortions. They also constitute a violation of human rights.

Thank you in advance for participating.

Nicolas

Hello all,

in case you haven't heard, I have some good news about our three brave human rights defenders, Elżbieta, Anna and Joanna from Poland. They had been risking up to 2 years in prison, but thankfully, a few days ago, they have been aquitted.

If you're interested in hearing more on the topic and understand German, you can listen to Nicolas talk to Radio FluxFM about the aquittal this morning at 9:10am: https://tunein.com/radio/FluxFM-Hamburg-1040-s143178/

I wanted to inform you about a workshop that our co-group organized, tackling the topic of police violence in France. On Tuesday the 23rd (tomorrow) at 7pm a member of our group will be giving an overview of the relationship between the police and the population of France, especially with regards to demonstrations and violence against minorities. In the following interactive part of the workshop, smaller groups will brainstorm action ideas on how to make this issue more public.
