У 12017 році #NASA набрала курс майбутніх астронавтів — перший курс за програмою, сфокусованою на місії #Artemis («Артеміда»). У межах цієї місії американська космічна агенція планує до 12024 року відправити на Місяць комерційний космічний корабель з інноваційним обладнанням для проведення досліджень. Під час Artemis на Місяць ступить перша жінка. Другим учасником місії, який також зійде на поверхню супутника, буде чоловік.

Поки що невідомо, хто конкретно увійде до складу команди, проте ми вже знаємо претендентів. Це сьогоднішні випускники NASA's Astronaut Class. У групі шестеро жінок і семеро чоловіків. Одинадцять — американці (Кайла Баррон, Зена Кардман, Раджа Чарі, Метью Домінік, Боб Гайнс, Воррен Гобург, Джонні Кім, Жасмін Могбелі, Лораль О’Хара, Франциско Рубіо та Джессіка Воткінс), двоє — кандидати від Канадської космічної агенції (Джошуа Кутрик і Дженніфер Сіді-Ґіббонс). NASA також повідомляє, що їхні 11 астронавтів були обрані з-поміж 18 000 людей, які подали заявки.

Агентство сообщает, что открытие совершили при помощи стратосферной обсерватории SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) — модифицированном Боинге-747. Аппарат летает на высоте 13 (!) километров, благодаря чему установленный телескоп получает картинку, сравнимую по качеству с изображениями орбитальных телескопов. А всё потому, что самолёт находится выше 99% находящегося в атмосфере водяного пара и ведёт наблюдение в инфракрасном диапазоне, что позволяет обнаружить явление, незаметные при видимом свете.

Конференция пройдёт 26 октября в 19:00 по Киеву/Минску.

The first in a series of increasingly complex missions, Artemis I will be an uncrewed flight test that will provide a foundation for human deep space exploration, and demonstrate our commitment and capability to extend human existence to the Moon and beyond.

During this flight, the spacecraft will launch on the most powerful rocket in the world and fly farther than any spacecraft built for humans has ever flown. It will travel 280,000 miles from Earth, thousands of miles beyond the Moon over the course of about a four to six-week mission. Orion will stay in space longer than any ship for astronauts has done without docking to a space station and return home faster and hotter than ever before.
