📣 FEEDBACK NEEDED! Today the IOG and Cardano Foundation teams held our latest daily readiness meeting to discuss the key metrics we’ve targeted before triggering the Vasil upgrade.

To date, we’re well on our way to hitting two out of three critical mass indicators, with over 80% of SPOs upgraded and 90% of the top DApps by TVL running node 1.35.3. in at least one testing environment.

As a valued member of our SPO community, we wanted to understand your readiness against three potential hard fork dates: September 17th (epoch 364), 22nd (epoch 365), or 27th (epoch 366).

The CF continues to work closely with exchanges on their readiness, and you can see current status on the readiness page here.

📣 We’re happy to report that today IOG and the Cardano Foundation have submitted an update proposal to hard fork the Cardano Pre-Production Environment. This environment matches mainnet configuration and will allow the community to continue final-stage integration/upgrade testing before the final countdown to the Vasil upgrade on Mainnet on September 22nd.

👉 For your reference, here are the key dates:

-September 19th - Mainnet update proposal needs to be submitted by this date to trigger HFC event on 22nd
-September 22nd - Mainnet HFC event (era transitions from Alonzo -> Babbage)
-September 27th - Plutus V2 Cost Model available on Mainnet

With over 95% of testnet blocks being created by the Vasil node (1.35.3), the top Cardano DApps tested and confirmed ready, and top exchanges continuing to make good progress on their updates (now over 55% by liquidity), we are confident we are still on track and will be able to proceed with triggering the hard fork at the appropriate time.

In less than one minute we’ll see the Vasil upgrade start deployment on the Cardano mainnet via a hard fork combinator (HFC) event. The team is ready and will be monitoring the network carefully over the rollover period. ⏳

While the transition should be smooth (thanks to the hard fork combinator!) you should anticipate a busier than usual network and a longer transition period over the epoch boundary while the network picks up the change.

We also expect some downtime on Cardano Explorer, in the meantime you can use cardanoscan.io or cexplorer.io.

Vasil will bring a number of benefits to Cardano including more efficient, more powerful smart contracts via new Plutus V2 improvements. Diffusion pipelining (a capability enabled with Vasil) will allow for further optimisation and continuing tuning of network performance over the weeks and months ahead. 🙏

👉 NOTE: Full Vasil capability will become available on the 27th September, along with the activation of the Plutus V2 cost model, delivering lower transaction costs for smart contracts.

Yesterday, the IOG and Cardano Foundation teams successfully triggered the Vasil upgrade on the Cardano mainnet 👏

Today, the team has successfully submitted the Plutus V2 cost model to mainnet, making full Vasil capability available to devs after the next epoch, Sept. 27 🔥

We’re pleased to announce that after a successful fork on the 22nd of September, the new capabilities (including node and CLI support for reference inputs, inline datums, reference scripts, and collateral outputs), along with a new Plutus cost model, are now fully enabled on mainnet! 👏

NOTE: Plutus V1 cannot use reference inputs, reference scripts, or inline datums.

IOG will soon be re-spinning the Preview and Pre-Production environments to correct the configuration on the validity period for the KES keys.

As you may know, on the Pre-Production and Preview networks, the node evolution limit was previously set to 120 KES periods of 1 day, when in fact it should be set to 62 KES periods of 1.5 days – the same as it is on the Cardano mainnet. The purpose of this re-spin is to correct and remove the issue completely.

With this in mind, and as a valued member of our SPO community, we want to understand your readiness for respinning these environments. 👉 Please indicate your preferences in this short survey: https://input-output.typeform.com/environments NOTE: We will be closing the survey on Thursday 13th of October at 3pm UTC.
