🇵🇸 Demands for media workers in this moment | Mondoweiss - 16/11/2023

Western media is implicated in the genocide unfolding in Gaza through its double standards against Palestinians, and deep institutional complicity and collusion. Here are the Palestine movement's demands on media workers and institutions.

Since the 7th of October, 25 Palestinian journalists and 13 workers for media agencies have been killed by Israeli bombardment. Over the same period there have been direct attacks on the homes of 35 journalists, killing dozens of their family members. At least 20 of the 25 journalists killed were intentionally targeted by strikes on their homes or during their work covering Israel’s attacks.

Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Gaza Wael al-Dahdouh was live on air when he heard the worst possible news: His family had been attacked by Israel.

His wife Amna, son Mahmoud, daughter Sham and grandson Adam were all killed.

It has been almost a month since the massacre yet Wael has not had any space to grieve. He has continued reporting with great courage on the genocide being inflicted on his people

🇵🇸 'It's Bisan from Gaza and I'm Escaping South' | AJ+

Journalist Bisan Owda documented her journey from al-Shifa Hospital to southern Gaza as she tried to find a new place to shelter. Along her journey, she spokewith elderly people on the road, injured children and a doctor about diseases. Israel has ordered an evacuation to the south, but has continued bombing there. The UN says nearly all of Gaza is on the verge of starvation.

On top of starvation, heavy rains, cold temperatures and potential flooding are putting Gazans more at risk of infectious disease.

🇵🇸 ‘It’s Bisan From Gaza, And Israel Made All These People Homeless’ | Voices from Gaza - AJ+

Palestinian families returned to their homes, many of which have been reduced to rubble. More than 60% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed and thousands of people are missing under the rubble.

Bisan Owda, a video journalist in Gaza, followed families in the southern town of Khuza’a as they search for remains of their lives under the rubble. Residents of the town are determined to rebuild their homes after surviving previous Israeli airstrikes in 2014 and in 2021.

This video was filmed during the 7 day temporary ceasefire in Gaza.

Palestinian video journalist Bisan Owda shows that Al-Mawasi, a small town in southern Gaza and Israel's offered so-called "safe zone" for over 2.2 million people displaced from the north, has almost no infrastructure or services.
