📷Aftermath of a #Saudi-led air strike on Yemen’s capital Sanaa, 18 January 2022.

Gross violations of international law. Missiles raining down on houses. Kleptocrats laundering their ill-gotten gains through #London and buying political influence. Aggressive, powerful states attacking a poorer neighbour; backing separatist rebels; illegally occupying its land; dropping cluster bombs and conducting crippling cyber-attacks. Sound familiar?

This is what Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been doing to Yemen since 2015. It’s a conflict that has continued during Putin’s offensive in Ukraine, but with a fraction of the media scrutiny.

Unlike with #Russia, there have been no recent calls for financial or even sporting sanctions on Gulf regimes from prominent British commentators or politicians. With the war in #Yemen worsening once again – as Declassified’s new film shows below – the silence of Britain’s political class becomes ever louder

On Its Seventh Anniversary, Yemen Seeks to End a War the World Has Forgottenhttps://www.mintpressnews.com/yemen-seventh-anniversary-seeks-to-end-war/280134/

#SANA’A, YEMEN -– Seven years have passed since the brutal #war against Yemen, a ship-shaped country located on the southern Arabian Peninsula, began in March 2015. The war has been acknowledged as one the bloodiest in modern history and called the “world’s worst humanitarian disaster” by #humanrights groups. Yet, rather than breaking #Yemeni resolve, the #Saudi-led war backed by the collective military might of the world’s most powerful nations has only strengthened the poorest country in the Middle East; and Ansar Allah, its underdog combatant, is now stronger and more united than it has ever been.

Pandora's Box : Reflecting on 20 years of drone targeted killing
https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=YgeL1RWW8Gw

On 3rd November 2002, a US #Predator drone launched two missiles at a vehicle travelling through the desert in Marib province, #Yemen. The drone’s target was al-Qaeda leader Qa’id Salim Sinan al-Harithi and this was the first of what has proved to be two decades of US drone targeted assassinations ‘beyond the battlefield’. An untold number of such operations have taken place across the globe since, with a significant number of such strikes causing serious civilian casualties. Despite public controversy and grave legal and ethical objections, the practise has spread among other drone operators including the UK, #France and Turkey.

#Drone #Wars invited a number of experts to mark 20 years of drone targeted killings, to offer some reflections on the human, legal and political cost of the practice and to discuss how we can ensure that drone operators abide by international law in this area

🇮🇱🇵🇸🖇 When discussing the possibility of a ground operation by the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip, it is important to acknowledge that this option would be extremely challenging to execute. Despite Israel's technological superiority, it should not be assumed that this would be an easy task.

While just a week ago there was widespread speculation in Tel Aviv about the imminent start of the ground phase, the media has now adopted a more cautious approach in assessing the timing and prospects of the operation. This can be seen in a more restrained analysis published by Haaretz.

However, it is worth noting that the initial mistake made by the authorities has had an impact. Israeli society now expects significant results from the government, and the bar of expectation has been set very high. Any deviation from the plan, such as large losses or a prolonged conflict, could have serious consequences.

This situation has been exacerbated by the regular rumors from Israeli officials about the imminent end of Hamas and the complete capture of the Gaza Strip. The IDF is now expected to achieve this goal in a short period of time without wasting significant resources, which is virtually impossible.

📌 It is interesting to observe how the events in the Gaza Strip are intertwined with the ongoing offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. There are also high expectations in Russian society regarding this offensive.

For instance, the assault on Avdeevka, in terms of the fortified area's structure and the defense built around the suburb, not only compares to Bakhmut but may even surpass it. The Russian forces are taking a gradual approach to minimize losses and ensure progress.

However, as soon as the Russian fighters began to consolidate their positions and regroup, there were discussions on the internet about the supposed failure of the assault on Avdeevka. This emotional reaction is significant, but it should not be taken into account when planning the offensive, as it does not reflect the actual progress being made.

🔹 An Israeli tanker has been seized off the coast of the Yemeni port city of Aden, the third such incident in a week after Yemen’s Armed Forces and the popular Ansarullah resistance movement warned of targeting any of the occupying regime’s ships crossing the Arab country’s territorial waters.
