Peer Writing Mentors are integral in cultivating writing skills as one of the fundamentals of higher education ✍🏼 Leveraging their personal writing experience and acquired training, they assist peers in cultivating fresh approaches towards writing. Acting as neutral first audience, they aid writers in discerning the clarity of their work. The interaction between Peer Writing Mentors and students is mutually beneficial — students often find new ways 💡 of refining and enriching their ideas while Peer Writing Mentors frequently experience personal growth 📈 in their writing methodologies through mentoring.

Did you know the NUS campus is home to a variety of useful plants? 🍃🌿
At last week’s Researcher Unbound Plus (also known as RU+) event, audiences were treated to an engaging presentation by Dr Amy Choong (Senior Lecturer from the NUS Department of Biological Sciences), who shared her deep knowledge of the plant diversity in NUS and how plants can help solve many modern day problems. The audience also had the opportunity to browse through a limited-time showcase of curated books related to the topic, and explore little known facts about plants through an exhibition by students from Dr Choong’s LSM3258 Comparative Botany class.
RU+ is an extension of our flagship Researcher Unbound programme. It is designed to cultivate vibrant dialogues and networks, fostering a collaborative environment where individuals from diverse disciplines can engage, share insights, and spark innovative ideas. Stay tuned for our next event! 😍

She is currently fighting a losing battle to manage her sweet tooth 🦷 Check out what she reads. #GetToKnowMeThroughBooks

She’s also a vegetarian 🍆🥦🌽, making us wonder if that’s her secret for staying fresh-looking 🤔. Check out her recommended read (there’s a cat on the book cover too). #GetToKnowMeThroughBooks

Kubota Beisen, a renowned Japanese artist from the Meiji period ⛩, only had a fleeting eight-and-a-half hours in Singapore. Despite the brevity of his visit — and as a testament to the artist’s abilities and keen observation — Kubota would produce 12 woodblock prints that deftly capture the unique scenes of the wildlife and people of Singapore. 🌴🌺 Compiled in a travel narrative, The Album of Beisen’s Travels (Beisen man’yū gajō) contains some of the earliest depictions of Singapore’s biodiversity in the late 19th century.
8½ Hours in Singapore reproduces Kubota’s woodblock prints of Singapore, and provides translations to the relevant portions of his narrative to make his work more accessible to a wider audience.
🎉 Join us in celebrating the book launch 📒as we unveil the story behind the book’s creation, and explore a selection of rare books and specimens on display. https://nus.edu.sg/nuslibraries/whats-on-listing/events/8-hours-in-singapore-book-launch
