“The shelves are emptying"

As well as a full siege imposed on Gaza by Israel on 9 October, which resulted in the cutting off of all water, electricity, food, aid, fuel and electricity supplies, Israeli bombing is now targeting bakeries, supermarkets, water tanks and solar panels in the besieged enclave.

Aid has been slow to trickle in, with the whole month’s supply being equivalent to what used to enter the besieged Strip in a single day before the war.

MEE’s correspondent in Gaza, Maha Hussaini, took to X to describe the situation: “We don’t need money. Money in #Gaza is useless while there is nothing to buy from the markets.”

“We need your governments to pressure Israel to immediately stop its war crimes & crimes against humanity,” she continued.

On the ground, people are complaining about kidney pain, dehydration and hunger due to the lack of supplies, while surgery is still being performed without any form of anaesthetic.
#BREAKING: Intense Israeli aerial and artillery shelling fighting were heard near Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City late on Friday.

Street battles are ongoing within 500 meters of the hospital, a local journalist at the scene told Middle East Eye.

Ashraf al-Qudra, the spokesperson of the Palestinian health ministry said: “The Israeli occupation is focusing its bombing in the areas surrounding Al-Shifa and other hospitals in Gaza City and northern Gaza”.

He added that ambulances aren’t able to leave the hospital due to the heavy bombardment.

At least 14,128 Palestinians, including 5,840 children, have been killed in Gaza since 7 October, according to the Palestinian health authority.

For weeks, Israel has threatened northern residents to relocate south for “safety” or risk getting bombed themselves. However, according to the UN, some 160,000 people have opted to remain in the north, as nowhere is deemed safe in the Strip.

Around three-quarters of Gaza’s population, some 1.7 million people, have been displaced since 7 October, with many seeking refuge in UN-run schools and hospitals.

However, the Israeli army has bombed hospitals, schools, mosques, churches and other civilian structures. In northern Gaza, all hospitals are now totally out of service, the health ministry said, with many still housing patients and displaced people.
