Visceral #adiposity and metabolic syndrome after very high–#fat and low-fat isocaloric diets: a randomized controlled trial

http://m.ajcn.nutrition.org/content/early/2016/11/30/ajcn.115.123463.abstract

Consuming energy primarily as carbohydrate or fat for 3 mo did not differentially influence visceral fat and metabolic syndrome in a low-processed, lower-glycemic dietary context. Our data do not support the idea that dietary fat per se promotes ectopic adiposity and cardiometabolic syndrome in humans.
#Sleep and #Adiposity in Preadolescent Children: The Importance of Social Jetlag
http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/chi.2017.0272

While short and poor quality sleep have been associated with childhood obesity, no known studies have examined social jetlag. Social jetlag is the discrepancy between an individual's circadian clock and social rhythms, and is measured as the difference in hours between the midpoint of sleep during work/school days and on free (weekend) days. This study investigated the independent associations between sleep duration, sleep disturbances, and social jetlag with adiposity in children Following adjustment for confounders, sleep duration was not associated with any variable, and sleep disturbances were associated with FMI (β = 0.047, 95% CI: 0.002, 0.093 kg/m2), while social jetlag was associated with all five adiposity variables, including an absolute 3% greater body fat (β = 2.963, 95% CI: 0.40, 5.53%) per 1 hour of social jetlag.

Conclusions: Social jetlag may be an important and measurable public health target in children

Impact of dietary #sucrose on #adiposity and glucose homeostasis in C57BL/6J mice depends on mode of ingestion: liquid or solid

..Since in humans consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has been widely implicated, we investigated whether the mode of ingestion (solid or liquid) had different impacts on body weight regulation and glucose homeostasis

Consumption of sucrose-sweetened water, but not equivalent levels of solid sucrose, led to body fat gain in C57BL/6 mice. Glucose intolerance was positively correlated to body fatness, rather than sucrose intake.

Conclusions
Our data support the suggestion that consumption of liquid sucrose may be an important contributor to dysregulation of body weight and related metabolic syndromes.

The associations of longitudinal changes in consumption of total and types of #dairy products and markers of metabolic risk and #adiposity: findings from the European Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)–Norfolk study, United Kingdom
https://2medical.news/2020/05/11/the-associations-of-longitudinal-changes-in-consumption-of-total-and-types-of-dairy-products-and-markers-of-metabolic-risk-and-adiposity-findings-from-the-european-investigation-into-cancer-and-nut/

..For adiposity, an increase in fermented dairy products [yogurt (total or low-fat) or low-fat cheese] consumption was associated with a lower increase in body weight and body mass index (BMI). For example, over 3.7 y, increasing yogurt consumption by 1 serving/d was associated with a smaller increase in body weight by 0.23 kg (95% CI: −0.46, −0.01 kg). An increase in full-fat milk, high-fat cheese, …
Associations between abdominal #obesity indices and #diabetic complications: Chinese visceral #adiposity index and neck circumference
https://2medical.news/2020/08/09/associations-between-abdominal-obesity-indices-and-diabetic-complications-chinese-visceral-adiposity-index-and-neck-circumference/

Obesity, especially abdominal obesity, has been considered a risk factor for diabetic complications. Many abdominal obesity indices have been established, including neck circumference (NC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI) and the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI). However, studies investigating the associations between these indices and diabetic complications are limited. The objective of this study was to investigate the associations …
Trends in #Adiposity and #Food Insecurity Among US Adults
https://2medical.news/2020/09/28/trends-in-adiposity-and-food-insecurity-among-us-adults/

..Food insecurity is a core indicator of nutritional status and “exists whenever the availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or the ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways is limited or uncertain.” ..Main Outcomes and Measures The primary outcome was food insecurity. Data on BMI (calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared) were categorized as follows: normal weight …
Childhood Daily #Energy Expenditure Does Not Decrease with Market Integration and Is Not Related to #Adiposity in Amazonia
https://2medical.news/2021/01/21/childhood-daily-energy-expenditure-does-not-decrease-with-market-integration-and-is-not-related-to-adiposity-in-amazonia/

Childhood overweight and obesity (OW/OB) is increasingly centered in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as rural populations experience market integration and lifeway change. Most explanatory studies have relied on imprecise estimates of children’s energy expenditure, restricting understanding of the relative effects of changes in diet and energy expenditure on the development of OW/OB in transitioning contexts.. ..Cross-sectional data were collected from “rural” (n = 43) …
Dose-response association between #adiposity and #liver cancer incidence: a prospective cohort study among non-smoking and non-alcohol drinking Chinese women
https://2medical.news/2021/04/21/dose-response-association-between-adiposity-and-liver-cancer-incidence-a-prospective-cohort-study-among-non-smoking-and-non-alcohol-drinking-chinese-women/

Background: Based on a population with very low prevalence of smoking and alcohol drinking, we examined the associations between overall obesity and fat distribution in middle age, obesity in early adulthood, and adult weight gain with the risk of liver cancer incidence. Methods: The associations between body mass index (BMI) at study enrollment and at age 20, waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-to-hip ratio …
