Climate change has worsened global social inequalities and is also exacerbated by the systems that keep these inequalities in place. The effects of climate change also pose a threat to the right to health, as it affects clean air, drinking water, adequate housing, food, economic security, social relationships, and community life.

Heatwaves also disproportionately kill those who are institutionalized and who are in the margins. Confronted with ecological destruction, people experience emotional and existential distress that, at times, leads to hopelessness. Some research suggests that this may be especially true for younger generations who are likely to bear the brunt of these effects.

' As we recognize the 30th anniversary of the ADA this month, we honor the labor of those who came before us, who fought for the crucial win of the ADA.
Uplifting that the ADA isn't near enough what we need or deserve, and that ultimately we don't need or want laws.
We need to abolish ableism - especially racialized ableism - and we know ableism is always racist, sexist, classist, homomisic, fatmisic, colonialist & upholding of the gender binary.

What we really want is:
- Free universal healthcare.
- Reparations for Black and Indigenous people, and medical reparations for anyone abused, deceived, harmed or neglected by the Medical Industrial Complex.
- Abolition/de-institutionalization of people with disabilities: independent living for all of us who want it with ample easy access to attendant care.
- Universal access! Elevators that work & make them solar powered please. Crips want to go green because we are dying at the frontlines of climate crisis. Buildings built green & meeting diverse human & planetary needs, braille, ASL & multilingual services available as a given & norm.
- Fragrance-free public spaces: harmful chemicals of all types banned.

What do you want to see us win in the next 30 years? Onward with Disability Justice!
