Boom! NASA's spacecraft "hit" an asteroid
A NASA spacecraft collided with an asteroid at a very high speed during training operations on Monday. This operation was carried out in completely realistic conditions and with the aim of preparing for the day when the heavenly bodies will collide with the earth.
In this space encounter, the Dart spacecraft hit an asteroid at a distance of 11.3 km from the earth at a speed of 22,500 kbm/h. Scientists expected that this collision would create a hole in the asteroid, scatter many rocks and soil in space, and most importantly, distort the orbit of the asteroid.
