*Watch Google unveil the Google Home Hub and more here!*

Each October, Google throws one big “Made by Google” event to show off all of the new gadgets it’s been working on for months.

Today is that day. The event will start at 9 AM Pacific (12 PM in New York, 5 PM in London, and 12 AM Tuesday in China, 8:10 PM in India), and you can tune in right here.

While Google probably will have some surprises up its sleeve, a seemingly endless stream of leaks has given us a good idea of what might be in store for Google Home/Assistant fans here. Google Home Hub — seems likely, and a new Chromecast has been floating around the FCC, with Google Home Mini as a Smart TV kit.

Whatever gets announced, we’ll be there. Tune in throughout the day for all of the news as it happens.

One app to rule them all: revamped Google Home app puts all of your devices in one place
Google Home app will allow you to control all your smart home gadgets from one place. App gets much better design and can now control smart devices remotely as well. You can control a family member or friend’s smart home.

The new Home App now does more than just recommend what movies to play through your Chromecast, or act as a vehicle to set up your Home Mini. The app has been revamped to make it easier to control multiple devices quickly, whether they’re in your own home or your parents’, so you can better play tech support from remote locations. No more sitting in a dark room because your roommate/family member can't log in to Hue.

Google Home app gets smart home controls, intelligent actions, and household sharing.

The app can now display all your devices in one view and organizes them by room. You can access Google Assistant from the app and manage devices like your Nest thermostat or Hue smart lights without having to go into their respective apps. The update is rolling out to Android now, and appears to be available on iOS now.

*Deal - Get a Nest Hello doorbell and Google Home Mini for $199 ($79 off)*

Google's Nest family products have tight integration with Assistant. For instance, the Nest Hello doorbell can announce visitors if you've got a Google Home on the same network. Now, you can get both components of that setup at a discount.

+Nest Hello usually costs $230, and it's easy to install. That device is $30 off on
+B&H Photo Video right now and Nest is throwing in a free Google Home Mini(black, white, or coral) with purchase, which usually costs almost $50.

When you set up both devices, Nest will automatically announce visitors via the Home Mini—you don't need to configure this at all. If you've got a Chromecast or smart display, you can also use the Home Mini to pull up video from your camera on the connected screen.

Get free shipping and B&H doesn't charge tax in most places.

*Google Assistant works with over 10,000 smart home devices from more than 1000+ popular brands
*
That is nearly 10 times more devices than it did at the start of this year.

There are more than 200 million devices in people’s homes, made up of over 10,000 smart devices from over 1,000 brands—including +Nest, +LG Electronics,
+ADT, August, +SimpliSafe Home Security, Vivnt and +VIZIO—that work with the Google Assistant.

At the start of the year, Google boasted compatibility with 1,500 devices. By May, the number was up to 5,000 devices with Google Assistant either built-in or integrated through app or platform support. Doubling again to 10,000 in early October demonstrates strong growth among third-party manufactures committing to the platform. This is notable in part because it shows that the number of smart home devices supported by Google Assistant has grown nearly 10 fold in just nine months.

*Nest Thermostat E + Google Home Mini for $79(139$ off) at some Walmart locations
*

Nest Thermostat E and a Google Home Mini, giving you both the mechanism to control your home environment, and the means to issue those commands. As a basic entry into the concept, it's a pretty good combo, and right now you can snag both together for just $79 (down from ~$169) in-store at some Walmart locations.

You'll actually have to drive to your local store, and reports are mixed. At a minimum, you can at least check to see if the right combination of stock is present at a given store via BrickSeek(sku=991980757), though the prices it lists aren't always correct.

Considering the size of the discount — the Nest E is normally $169 by itself — it might be worth checking stock at your local store, and maybe a quick drive over to see.

*The first Made-for-Google lightbulbs don't require a hub
*
+GE Lighting and Google make using your smart bulbs as easy as saying, ‘Hey, Google’

One of the primary obstacles that prevents people from immersing themselves in smart home technology is the idea of a difficult setup. In today’s growing smart home space, easy, seamless connections are more important than ever. To date, using Google Assistant to control your lighting away from your phone has typically meant shopping for both a smart speaker and bulbs with a hub serving as a go-between, such as Philips' Hue. No more, because C by GE has introduced a new line of light bulbs that connect seamlessly and automatically pair with any Google Home speaker through Bluetooth and show up in the Home app. Rather than go through a sometimes-complicated setup process, just screw in the light bulb and load up your Google Assistant app. This exclusive lighting collaboration with Google means turning the bulb on or off, is as simple as screwing in a lightbulb and saying, “Hey, Google"

You can also control the lights from the Google Home app, as well as set up more advanced features like routines and schedules. This means you won’t need multiple apps on your phone to control the two different devices. The bulbs and Google Home connect via Bluetooth, which frees up your Wi-Fi network for other uses.

You can still use Assistant on your phone, and existing C by GE owners don't have to replace their illumination. This is more about providing value to newcomers to smart lights who don't want the expense or complexity of a hub. You'll see that reflected in the pricing. C-Life bulbs have a single color setting, but you have total control over the brightness level. C-Sleep bulbs have three color options and are designed to support your Circadian rhythm, promoting a more natural sleep/wake cycle. While you can buy ordinary C-Life (everyday use) and C-Sleep (night-oriented) two-packs for $25 and $35, respectively, the real allure is a new Smart Light Starter Kit that includes both a Google Home Mini and a single, pre-paired C-Life bulb for $55. The $10 discount over a separate purchase isn't that steep, but you're also getting a kit where voice control is enabled out of the box.

GE’s new light bulbs work with Google Assistant without a hub
Google will offer a “Smart Lighting Starter Kit” which comes with a pre-paired Google Home Mini and a C-Life bulb. The kit is available for purchase at the Google Store, Best Buy, Lowe’s, and Target. While this makes it easy for new users to jump right in, existing owners of Google Home and/or C by GE bulbs should also be able to sync the two together.

*Google Assistant can tell your Roomba where to clean
*
Google and iRobot team up to better map your smart home.

The collaboration focuses on extending iRobot's mapping data to other smart gadgets. iRobot and Google have announced they're looking at ways to integrate the Roomba-maker's home maps with Google Assistant to extend instructions to other gadgets.
The collaboration centers on iRobot's Roomba i7+ vacuum models' ability to map home floor plans and remember room names. It can map its surroundings to avoid obstacles and create “visual landmarks to keep track of where it’s been and where it has yet to clean.” This sensing capability allows the Roomba to learn the rooms in your home, with existing Google Assistant integration allowing you to direct where the robot should clean next.

As it is, Google Home users or anyone with Google Assistant can give a voice command like, "Hey Google, clean the kitchen", and a Roomba carries out the task. The integration supports the task across multiple rooms that have been assigned a name, such as the bedroom, living room, and other named areas.

"Robots with mapping and spatial awareness capabilities will play an important role in allowing other smart devices in the home to more seamlessly work together, "simplify home setup" and foster "powerful new automations and are working to "explore new ways to enable a more thoughtful home."

Google said iRobot's maps could help locate wifi-connected lights and automatically assign names and locations to them within the house, while a future robot would know where to fetch a beer by identifying the location of a connected refrigerator.

Meanwhile, features that result from this integration will be opt-in, with users needing to agree on sharing information.

*Google Chromecast can now sync music with Home speakers
*

Google Home speakers and Chromecasts can now be included in a Home audio group for music, podcasts, or audiobooks. That means you can play or queue up a a song or playlist on Spotify, iHeartRadio, or other streaming music services both through your television and through Home speakers anywhere in your house, and it works with all generations of the dongle. Support for Pandora Premium streaming music was also made available today. Audio groups are created within the Home app for iOS or Android smartphones.
Smart displays like Google Home Hub will be able to join groups in the coming weeks.

This is a feature of Preview program that gives an early look at upcoming features. The capability is starting to roll out to users today. The feature makes good on Google's promise to integrate Chromecast into speaker groups, which can be set up through the Google Home app. When casting, the connected TV displays the song on the “Backdrop” screen. Now devices that connect with Chromecast, including televisions, can be added to a grouping. When a TV with Chromecast is synced to a speaker group, the display will show song information on screen, atop a rotating selection of background images.

More Google devices working together in audio groups is just the latest line of changes made for Google Assistant.

*I tried cooking an entire Thanksgiving dinner using Google Home Hub and it helped a lot*

The Google Home Hub is a lot like other Google smart speakers, with one big difference. It has a 7-inch screen, and is meant to be used in the kitchen as a cooking guide. So Alexandra Appolonia from +Business Insider decided to put it to the ultimate test — guiding us through an entire Thanksgiving dinner.

I want to thank our followers for following Google Home/Assistant channel and our work. May you have a blessed and Happy #Thanksgiving Day.
