Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) was established in 1992. It is the only professional association representing midwives in the country. EMwA currently has over Eight thousand members across the country and has eleven branch offices. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives.

The Ethiopian Midwives Association developed its online membership management system with the support of UNFPA. The system allows online Members registration, and renewal.

More than 30 organizations have been accredited by the association so far as CPD providers. Twelve CPD courses were developed by EMwA, and eight of them were accredited i.e CAC/PAC, CMR,PSS,MISP,BEMONC,GBV,FP,CxCa Screening.......... CPD is one of the main regulatory requirement for re-licensure.
