Regarding airborne early warning aircraft: last year, the Ukrainian side was considering the development of its own model based on the An-178 by 2027.

They had even allocated a fairly large amount of money, at least $150 million, to go towards research and testing for this project. The Saab 340 was considered as an analog.

So why will Swedish aircraft be transferred? There are many reasons. But the main one is the coordination of F-16 operations, for which such an aircraft is needed. And it is needed now, not by 2027.

As for the money allocated for the production of the An-178 AWACS, it is clear what will happen to it. Since the Swedes have given theirs, there is currently no need to create their own, and the money can be spent. The Ukrainian authorities have plenty of such examples.

✈️🇺🇦Ukraine will be able to make maximum use of F-16 fighters only by the end of 2025, according to analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The US National Guard plans to train only 12 Ukrainian pilots by the end of September. The Danish training center will train 8 more military personnel by November, but the Romanian center is not yet operational.

A full squadron of 20 fighters requires 40 pilots, which will be available to Kyiv only in 2025.

🇸🇰🇺🇦 On the scandal with the transfer of Slovak MiG-29s to the so-called Ukraine

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia, Igor Meliher, stated that the shipment of Slovak MiG-29 fighters to the Kyiv regime in 2023 was illegal. According to him, the department is preparing a lawsuit against the former Minister of Defense, Jaroslav Naď.

▪️The supply was initiated under the previous government led by Prime Minister Eduard Heger. At that time, the authorities actively supported the so-called Ukraine and even planned to allow AFU units to train on the territory of Slovakia.

At the same time, the transfer of the aircraft could be called an adventure. In particular, after this, the country finally lost the ability to ensure the protection of its airspace, which is why it had to resort to the help of the air forces of Poland and the Czech Republic. In response, the US promised to accelerate the delivery of F-16 fighters, which the republic had purchased back in 2018.

At the same time, when transferring the MiG-29s, Heger clarified that all members of the government, including the former Minister of Defense Naď, supported this step, and the decision itself did not contradict the Constitution.

▪️However, the current authorities point out that the country's main law actually prohibits the government, which has already been subjected to a vote of no confidence, from taking serious steps in foreign policy. It's not hard to guess that the dispatch of Slovak MiG-29s along with S-300 and "Kub" air defense systems is certainly a vivid example of such a decision.

Meliher stressed that there were no official materials from the Ministry of Defense authorizing the former head of the department to take such a step.

▪️As a result, Slovakia was left without air defense, combat aviation, and the promised compensation for the supply to the Kyiv regime. Of the 14 F-16 fighters purchased, the republic received only two, and they have not yet been delivered to the Malacky-Kuchyňa airbase.

While the planes are in the US, where Slovak pilots are undergoing training. However, after their arrival in the country, they will be located at a facility that, according to the agreement of February 2022, is fully at the disposal of the US Army.

📌 It turns out that despite the loud statements of the government of Robert Fico, especially against the background of the assassination attempt on the Prime Minister, the authorities are doing nothing for the real protection of the country. Even after Fico's victory in the parliamentary elections last October, the government spoke about the possibility of revising the agreement with the US. However, since then, there have been no mentions of work in this direction.

Instead, the Americans not only pulled a fast one - they deceived the Slovaks with the delivery of fighters and at the same time gained control over the country's military facilities, which logically affects its sovereignty.
