🇵🇸 Scholars’ consensus: Genocide in Gaza marks turning point, Israel must be held accountable | Euro Med Monitor

Geneva – The characterisation of Israeli actions in Gaza as genocide by UN experts and international legal scholars should mark a turning point, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said today, in a call for Israel to be held accountable for its crimes.

Israel has a long history of committing acts of genocide against the Palestinian people, including the 1948 murder and mass displacement of Palestinians (#Nakba), as well as military occupation for more than 50 years, which has resulted in the establishment of an #apartheid regime ruling the Palestinian people and repeated military assaults on Gaza, which sparked the Israel’s ongoing, extremely violent chapter in Palestinian history.

🇵🇸 UN probe finds Palestinians subjected to beatings, electric shocks and sexual violence in Israeli detention | Middle East Eye –

Thousands of Palestinian administrative detainees – those being held without charge or trial – are subject to ill-treatment including dire physical conditions, torture and #SexualViolence, according to a report released on Wednesday by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (#OHCHR).

The report detailing the “prolonged secret and incommunicado detention” of Palestinians by Israeli authorities states that dozens have also died in Israeli custody.

🇵🇸 A new poll has revealed that 47% of Israeli Jews believe Israel should not obey international law and moral values during the course of the current war in Gaza.

The poll's findings were released on Sunday by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS).

The same poll suggested a majority of Israelis believe the prison officials accused of sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee should not face criminal charges and just be disciplined by the army.

Late last month, nine Israeli soldiers were arrested for the alleged rape of a Palestinian detained in #SdeTeiman, a facility in southern Israel's #Negev desert.

The incident created a backlash in Israel, with a far-right mob, that included an MP and minister, storming the detention centre and a military court in protest against the arrests.

Five of those detained were released to house arrest on Tuesday, pending a potential decision by the army to file indictments
