Geneva - The Israeli army has turned schools sheltering tens of thousands of displaced people into military centres and field execution sites as part of its ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, which began on 7 October, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Wednesday.
Euro-Med Monitor received testimonies about Israeli army forces carrying out unjustified field executions and killings of Palestinian civilians after detaining them for days inside the same schools where they had sought refuge from the violence.

In a distressing testimony, one of Gaza's innocent detainees recounts being forced to wear an explosive vest and enter a tunnel, serving as a human shield for the Israeli army in Gaza.
"He forced me to wear the vest, which was equipped with IEDs and a GoPro camera, and secured a rope around my waist, guiding me down into the tunnel."
Hakim, who prefers to remain anonymous, further disclosed, "They didn't hesitate to send me down the tunnel. A 15-year-old boy was also forced into the same situation, and the boy who was detained with me survived and was released days later."

International humanitarian law, or the laws of war, prohibits the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare. The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court provides that intentionally starving civilians by “depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival, including willfully impeding relief supplies” is a war crime. Criminal intent does not require the attacker’s admission but can also be inferred from the totality of the circumstances of the military campaign.
In addition, Israel’s continuing blockade of Gaza, as well as its more than 16-year closure, amounts to collective punishment of the civilian population, a war crime. As the occupying power in Gaza under the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel has the duty to ensure that the civilian population gets food and medical supplies.
