๐ต๐ธ Naji al-Ali was one of the most prominent cartoonists in the Arab world. Sarcastic, poignant and perhaps too bold, al-Aliโs cartoons were drawn from his experience as a Palestinian refugee since childhood and clearly reflected his political stance, which was often critical of the Arab regimes.
The following extracts are drawn from an interview with Radwa Ashour, novelist and professor of English literature at Ain Shams University, during the summer of 1984 in Budapest.. It was published in the periodical Al Muwagaha in 1985, only two years before al-Ali was assassinated in London in 1987 at the age of 50.

Israel has destroyed dozens of statues and monuments, which were built to honour Palestinians killed by Israeli forces.
The most famous was the sculpture of a horse in Jenin, in the Occupied West Bank.
Residents say the structure symbolised the endurance of the Palestinian people.

The Jenin Horse, also known by its Arabic name Al-Hissan (The Horse), was a sculpture built in 2003 by the population of Jenin, in the West Bank, along with German artist Thomas Kilpper, made with scrap metal and pieces of wrecked cars that had been destroyed during an Israeli invasion of the city.Among the components of the horse was a large panel from an ambulance.

A journalist and a novelist, Kanafani also produced #drawings and #paintings. Much like his writings, his artworks also address the Palestinian cause and the suffering of its people, depicting figurative and partially abstract Palestinian refugees using pale, expressive colors. Also, his works include cityscapes and Arabic #Calligraphy that also endorse the right of freedom for his native country. On July 8, 1972, Kanafani was murdered by a bomb planted in his car by Israelโs #Mossad spy agency in Beirut, where he is buried. Considered one of the most important Palestinian writers, his works were translated in into 17 languages and published in more than 20 countries.

Kanafaniโs revolutionary journey began with the Arab Nationalist Movement but was cut short due to his disillusionment with its Pan-Arab agendas, which blurred and scattered the Palestinian identity in the process of creating a unified Arab geographical and political continuum.
It is by becoming a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1967 and especially helped by being the founder/editor of the widely circulated weekly Al-Hadaf, that Ghassan Kanafani transcended Arabism to Palestinianism.
Note : he was also the author of some of the very early FPLP posters (1968/69/70) & Paintings - Drawings
