Palestinian Journalist’s Agonizing Detention Spotlights Israel’s Crackdown on Free Press –

On July 15, Palestinian journalist Basel Adra found himself apprehended by the military after documenting an Israeli settler’s assault in the occupied West Bank. Adra was subjected to handcuffing, blindfolding, and forced to endure hours under the scorching sun. While the Union of Journalists in Israel decried this incident as a grave infringement on press freedom, his ordeal mirrors the distressing reality encountered by countless Palestinian reporters.

According to the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA), violations against journalists and media freedom in Palestine witnessed an
alarming 8% surge from 2021 to 2022. The rights organization attributed this escalation to two fatal attacks targeting Palestinian journalists, curbs on social media expression, the Israeli offensive on Gaza, and a surge in settler-instigated violence.

🇵🇸 Demands for media workers in this moment | Mondoweiss - 16/11/2023

Western media is implicated in the genocide unfolding in Gaza through its double standards against Palestinians, and deep institutional complicity and collusion. Here are the Palestine movement's demands on media workers and institutions.

Since the 7th of October, 25 Palestinian journalists and 13 workers for media agencies have been killed by Israeli bombardment. Over the same period there have been direct attacks on the homes of 35 journalists, killing dozens of their family members. At least 20 of the 25 journalists killed were intentionally targeted by strikes on their homes or during their work covering Israel’s attacks.

🇵🇸 Ghassan Kalafani | Palestine Poster Project Archive

Kanafani’s revolutionary journey began with the Arab Nationalist Movement but was cut short due to his disillusionment with its Pan-Arab agendas, which blurred and scattered the Palestinian identity in the process of creating a unified Arab geographical and political continuum.

It is by becoming a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1967 and especially helped by being the founder/editor of the widely circulated weekly Al-Hadaf, that Ghassan Kanafani transcended Arabism to Palestinianism.

Note : he was also the author of some of the very early FPLP posters (1968/69/70) & Paintings - Drawings

🇵🇸 ‘The livestream was critical evidence’: Tracing attacks on Gaza’s press buildings | +972 Magazine –

According to the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, 103 journalists and #media workers are among the more than 37,000 Palestinian casualties of Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Faced with the deadliest war for journalists in modern history, Forbidden Stories set out to investigate the targeting of the press in #Gaza and the #WestBank

The consortium analyzed nearly 100 cases of #journalists and media workers killed in Gaza, as well as other cases in which Israel has allegedly targeted, threatened, or wounded members of the press over the past eight months. Unable to report freely from inside the Strip, consortium members remotely contacted over 120 journalists and witnesses to military activities in Gaza and the West Bank; consulted around 25 ballistics, weapons, and audio experts, including Earshot; and used #satellite images.
