#Feasts of #Megabit_16
✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the departure of the righteous Archbishop, Pope Michael l of Alexandria✞✞✞
✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞
✞✞✞Abba Michael the 46th Archbishop of Alexandria✞✞✞
=>Abba Michael was Egyptian in lineage and lived in the Monastery of Scetes for many years, from an early age, in spiritual struggles after choosing the monastic life. And in those days, in Egypt, the Archbishop (Theodorus) of Alexandria departed, and the fathers (bishops of Lower Egypt and the priests of Alexandria) inquired Abba Michael with, “Let us appoint you”, after they had heard a voice that came [from heaven] which said, “Appoint Abba Michael”. Nevertheless, he said, “No”. However, they tied him up and appointed him.
✞Thereafter, Abba Michael received severe afflictions while he was appointed a shepherd (bishop). The Caliph (‘Caliph’ say the Ethiopian fathers ‘has the meaning of wicked – ‘Kifu’‘) of the era used to detain and beat the father before the people.
✞Many were killed by the brutality of the tortures while more than 20,000 renounced their faith.
✞And the Ethiopian Emperor of the period, in spiritual zeal, went to Egypt with 100,000 cavalrymen, 100,000 mule-riders and 100,000 camel-riders, and distressed the Caliph and saved the Egyptian Christians from further torments.
✞And once Abba Michael was released from prison, he labored much to return to faith the lapsed. And he was successful. The righteous Archbishop departed on this day after years of strife.
✞✞✞May God not remove from us the Saint’s blessing.

✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the departure of the Apostle Saint Lazarus✞✞✞
✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞
✞✞✞Saint Lazarus the Apostle✞✞✞
=>St. Lazarus lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. And as all three were pure virgins and served the Lord, He counted Lazarus with the 72 Disciples and Mary alongside Martha with the 36 Holy Women.
✞And it is shown in the Gospel that our Lord loved them. (John 3:11) This was not because our Lord loves one more than the other. Rather, the account is telling us emblematically that they were found doing deeds that made them to be loved.
✞The Lord used to be hosted as a guest in Lazarus’ and his sisters’ house as the Holy Bible tells us (John 12:1). And it was in the home of these Saints that on Holy Thursday He gave from His Holy Body and Honorable Blood to the Apostles.
✞Later on, St. Lazarus became very ill and departed on this day. And his holy sisters buried him in great sorrow on the same day (John 11).
✞✞✞And our Good Lord will go 4 days later to raise him. May He grant us from his blessing. (Until then - until we commemorate the raising of Lazarus from the dead.)
✞✞✞ Annual feasts celebrated on the 17th of Megabit
1. St. Lazarus the Righteous Apostle

✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the Martyrdom of Saint Isidore✞✞✞
✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞
✞✞✞Saint Isidore the Martyr✞✞✞
=>Martyrdom is the highest price a Christian pays for his/her faith. A person can subdue his body in the service of God or give away his wealth and property. However, the greatest gift is offering oneself.
✞Giving oneself is possible in matrimony or asceticism. Nonetheless, its peak is martyrdom. As Saint Ephraim the Syrian said, “…the martyrs rejected the desire of this world, and poured out their blood for God, and have endured bitter death[s] for the sake of the kingdom of heaven”, martyrdom means enduring unpleasant death for the love of God. (Thursday’s Theotokia)
✞Did not our Redeemer, Christ, while being the Lord of heaven and earth endure the humiliation of the Cross and die for us! Many religions in the world speak about killing directly or indirectly. However, Christianity does not have a rule that puts forward or indicates killing [others].
✞And that is because He Himself had told us, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matt. 5:44). But if we do not nourish ourselves with faith and virtues daily, Christianity is not a belief where one becomes perfect in a day hence there might come failures in trials.
✞Particularly, we the Christian youths of today should give due attention, since the chronicles of the youthful martyrs of the past are articulated to us in order that we steadfast.
[Let us see the account of Saint Isidore in short for today.]
✞Our Church has many saints and scholars that She calls with this name including an Ethiopian scholar of the Gonderian period (1508 AD and 1784(69) AD).
✞St. Isidore, whom we commemorate today, lived in the Era of Persecution and had a kind friend named Sina. And both were Christians of the 3rd century that were raised properly by their mothers.
✞In their formative years, St. Sina was a soldier while St. Isidore a wool maker. And from their daily earnings they used to give as alms to the destitute after allotting small amounts necessary for their daily bread.
✞The Saints chose to be martyred in the name of Christ after they gave all that they had to the needy during the Era of Persecution.
✞And on this day, St. Isidore was beheaded first (before Sina) and received the crown of glory.
✞✞✞May God grant us from the Martyr’s glory.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.”✞✞✞
