Featured Devotional | Motivated By Christ

๐Ÿ–ค Again, Paul deals with the tongue, described by James as โ€œa world of evil among the parts of the bodyโ€ that often โ€œcorrupts the whole bodyโ€ (James 3:6).

For those of us who don't have healthy self-image, it's time to let go of our misguided notions and go back to how God made us to be.

God created us in His own likenessโ€”to have the ability to know Him, to love and create beautiful things, to have good desires and enjoyment, and to have a deep longing for eternity that tells us we're meant for much moreโ€”all these are gifts that make us wonderfully human and so wonderfully reflect our beautiful and glorious God.

Before proceeding to discuss the transformed Christian life, Paul touches on a central dynamic of this life.

To Those Hoping for Hope in the New Year

You may feel like Godโ€™s grace in your life has slowed, reduced to a trickle.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ But perhaps in this season, God's grace for you is to exercise being strong and courageous in the Lord too.

Featured Devotional | Called to Be Different

๐Ÿ› Ephesus was a centre for many things.

Like many pagan cities in the Mediterranean world of the first century, it was a centre of idolatry, which was often associated with temple prostitution.

Self-doubt and insecurities seem to be the norm for many of us these days, but they shouldn't be what defines us as followers of Jesus.

๐Ÿ†™ He wants us to live in a way that demonstrates a strong confidence in His enabling and leading.

Featured Devotional | Put on the Light

Continuing his โ€œputting off, putting onโ€ paradigm, Paul contrasts light and darkness. In Christ we are now light; we should therefore renounce the darkness that was once inside us (Ephesians 5:8).

We may know we are God's children, yet continue living like enslaved people: chained to the world's approval and its standards for success and security, consumed by the fear of mistakes and failure.

God has undoubtedly saved us, but we need to fully "receive" this gift by embracing the identity God has given usโ€”we are His sons and daughters, heirs of the King, not slaves to the world.

He sees our hearts and efforts, so there's no need to prove. He has secured our future, so there's no need to chase. He forgives and redeems, so there's no need to fear.

This is a question we ask when weโ€™re getting to know others. Most of the time, we answer with our job titlesโ€”after all, thatโ€™s what we spend most of the week occupied with! But what happens when we face changes in our careers or go through seasons of unemployment or restโ€”how do we see ourselves and our identity in those moments?

Perhaps instead of considering ourselves to be a ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป, a ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽจ, or a ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ, we should see ourselves first as ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€ who ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป happen to do the work of an accountant, an artist, or a chef.

Understanding our primary identity in Jesus helps us make decisions, behave, and work in ways that are aligned to who God has made us to be.

Featured Devotional | Filled with the Spirit

We have the Word and the Spirit to help us live as children of light. Together, the Word (that helps us know Godโ€™s will) and the Spirit (who enables us to understand the Word and do Godโ€™s will, Philippians 2:13) assist us in walking in the light. ๐ŸŒŸ

If we have doubts about who God is and what our relationship with Him is like, we can bring these concerns to Him directly. Perhaps He might not feel very close right now.

Or maybe we feel guilty for doubting Him. Maybe the questions are so overwhelming that we do not even know what to pray.

When words escape us, we can start by borrowing the words of the man who sought Jesusโ€™s healing for his son: โ€œLord, I believe; help my unbelief!โ€ (Mark 9:24).
