📚 Are You Using Texts Effectively in Your Classroom? 🤔

Finding great texts is easy, but using them effectively is another challenge! Should you focus on grammar, comprehension, or production?
The answer lies in three key approaches: TALO, TAVI, and TASP.
Here’s how to make the most of any text in your classroom ⬇️
🔍 TALO (Text as a Linguistic Object) – Use texts for grammar or vocabulary analysis.

Suggested Example Activity: After reading a news article on climate change, have students find and underline all instances of present perfect or modals of possibility (could, might, must). Discuss why these forms are used in context. 🧐

🌍 TAVI (Text as a Vehicle for Information) – Focus on understanding the overall meaning of the text.

Suggested Example Activity: Before reading a blog post on healthy eating, ask students to predict what the article might be about based on the headline or first paragraph. After reading, they can answer comprehension questions like, What are the main points about nutrition in the article? 💡

🚀 TASP (Text as a Springboard for Production) – Use the text to inspire speaking or writing tasks.

Suggested Example Activity: After reading a persuasive article about remote work, have students debate whether working from home is better than in the office, using ideas from the text to support their arguments. 🎤

Lesson plans? - Check.
Zoom link? - Check.
Coffee? - Now we’re ready. ☕️👌🏻

An English lesson without coffee? Sounds like a horror story.

How many cups do you need to function?
Be honest! ⬇️
🎤 Do you talk too much in your lessons? 🤔

Here are 3 simple ways to reduce your Teacher Talking Time (TTT) and give your students more opportunities to practice speaking! 👩‍🏫

1️⃣ Create more student-centred activities – Focus on activities where students are actively involved, such as group work or pair discussions, to minimize your speaking time.
2️⃣ Ask open-ended questions – Encourage students to think critically and respond with more than just a “yes” or “no.”
3️⃣ Use non-verbal communication – Gesture, use facial expressions, and rely on visual aids to convey meaning without speaking as much.

By doing this, you’ll help your students feel more engaged and confident in using the language. 🌟

🌷 Spring "Would You Rather?" – Fun Speaking Activity 🌷

Looking for an engaging way to welcome spring with your students?
Try this interactive "Would You Rather?" speaking activity!
It's perfect for all levels and works great for online lessons 🌼

📝 How to Play:
1️⃣ Warm-up Discussion
Ask students: What comes to mind when you think of spring?
Brainstorm spring-related words (e.g., flowers, rain, sunshine, allergies, picnics).

2️⃣ "Would You Rather?" Questions
Display these spring-themed questions and have students choose an option:
🌞 Would you rather live in a place where it’s always spring or always summer?
🌸 Would you rather have flowers that never stop blooming or trees that never lose their leaves?
🧺 Would you rather go on a picnic in the park or take a walk in a flower garden?
🤧 Would you rather have spring allergies or get caught in a spring rainstorm?
🎶 Would you rather wake up to birds singing every morning or see fireflies every night?
3️⃣ Encourage Discussion
A1-A2: Simple sentences (I choose… because…)
B1-B2: Comparisons (I prefer… because it’s more relaxing than…)
C1: Debate-style responses (While some may prefer…, I think… because…)

4️⃣ Wrap-up & Reflection
Ask: Which question was the hardest to answer?
Option: Have students create their own "Would You Rather?" questions for the next lesson.

Try it in your next lesson and bring spring into your virtual classroom! 🌿💛

🔥 3 creative activities for production stage 🚀🗣

Want to get your students talking fluently & confidently? Try these fun, high-energy activities for the Production stage of the PPP approach! 🏆

1. Speed debates ⚡️🎤
A fast-paced way to boost fluency, critical thinking, and persuasive language!
💡 How it works:
Divide students into pairs or small groups.
Give them a controversial topic related to the lesson.
They get 1 minute to prepare and 1 minute to debate!

🎯 Example topics:
📖 “Books are better than movies – yes or no?”
🤖 “AI teachers will replace human teachers – agree or disagree?”
🏆 After the debate, the class votes on the strongest argument!
2. Shark Tank pitch 🚀💰
Let students think like entrepreneurs and pitch their ideas using the target language!
💡 How it works:
Students invent a product or service.
They prepare a 1-minute pitch using persuasive language.
The class (as “investors” 💵) can ask follow-up questions!

🎯 Example pitches:
☂️ “If you buy our smart umbrella, you will never get wet again!” (Conditionals)
📱 “Our app will change your life because…” (Persuasive Language)

3. Storytelling with a challenge 📖🎭
Boost creativity & vocabulary by adding random challenges to storytelling!
💡 How it works:
Give students 3-5 random words they must include in a story.
They have 3-5 minutes to create a short story & share it!

🎯 Example prompts:
Past Tenses: “Tell a story about a crazy vacation using: lost, unexpected, lucky, disaster.”
🔮 Future Tenses: “Describe life in 2050 with: flying car, robot chef, no school.”

The basics of lesson planning

Planning is one of the essential skills of a competent teacher. But what makes an effective lesson plan?

Here are the key aspects to consider:

Engage – Capture students’ interest and get them involved.
Study – Focus on specific language points (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc.).
Activate – Give students opportunities to produce and use the language actively.

📌 Why is lesson planning important?
• Helps set clear learning objectives.
• Allows teachers to anticipate potential challenges.
• Ensures lessons are balanced, engaging, and effective.
• Boosts teacher confidence and professionalism.
📌 Do you need to plan if you have a coursebook?
Yes! A coursebook is a great resource, but every class is unique. Adapt and personalize materials to suit your students’ needs.

📌 Key principles of planning:
🎯 Set realistic goals based on students’ prior knowledge and motivation.
🔄 Incorporate variety to keep learners engaged.
🔀 Stay flexible—sometimes, the best moments in class come from unexpected discussions!

A lesson plan is your roadmap, but remember: Be prepared, stay adaptable, and go with the flow when needed!

How do you approach lesson planning?

That one student who brags the most about their English skills…
…and then they struggle to say a full sentence when called on in class 🤦‍♂️😂

🎤 We all have (or had) that one student who loves to boast about their language proficiency but goes silent when it’s time to speak.

💡 How to handle overconfident learners:
✔️ Encourage real-life application—make them prove their skills in conversation.
✔️ Give them challenging but constructive feedback.
✔️ Create a supportive environment where all students feel comfortable speaking.

💬 Teachers, have you ever had a student like this? How did you handle it?

Вриваємось у тренди!
Ми вирішили згенерувати викладача Yappi за допомогою ШІ — і ось вона:
стильна, відкрита, з кавою в одній руці і laptop з новим уроком — в іншій. І завжди з фразою “no stress, we’ll figure it out!” 😌

Бо викладання — це не лише про граматику й лексику. Це ще й про стиль, настрій, вайб, який ми передаємо учням щодня 🧡

Трошки креативу — і навіть звичайний день перетворюється на подію 😊

Бути викладачем — це теж мистецтво 🎭
Easter warm-up idea 🐣

Want a quick, meaningful way to bring some Easter energy into your lesson this week?

🐣 Activity: Easter Idioms & Expressions

📚 Idioms to introduce:
🥚 No spring chicken – someone who’s not young anymore
🥚 To put all your eggs in one basket – to risk everything on one plan
🥚 To egg someone on – to encourage someone to do something (often risky)
🥚 A good egg – a kind, reliable person
🥚 Walking on eggshells – being overly careful not to upset someone

🧠 Main steps (10–15 min):
1️⃣ Quick match-Up (3–5 min)
Students match idioms to their meanings in pairs or small groups.

2️⃣ Mini-dialogues or examples (5–8 min)
Each pair picks one idiom and creates a super short dialogue or sentence using it.

3️⃣ Share some findings (2–3 min)
Have a few students read theirs aloud. Vote for:
✔️ Funniest
✔️ Most natural
✔️ Most creative

💡 Why it’s a hit:
✔️ Light & engaging
✔️ Builds seasonal vocabulary
✔️ Perfect for a smooth class start

Save this activity and use it in your lessons 🤩
Чи помічали ви, як ваші студенти (а можливо, і ви самі?) часто вставляють у мовлення слова на кшталт «like», «OK», «so», «you know»?

Якщо вам теж знайоме це відчуття — ця ☑️СТАТТЯ може стати корисною знахідкою.

У ній детально розглядається:
• Чому ми (та наші учні) так часто вживаємо слова-паразити;
• Як вони впливають на ясність і плавність мовлення;
• Чим їх можна замінити, щоб звучати впевненіше та природніше.

Рекомендуємо до прочитання як викладачам, так і студентам!
