MPs have until 3pm on Friday 2nd of July (TOMORROW‼️) to sign amendments to the Police Bill which could remove some of the most dangerous parts of the bill! Good news: The ammendments would SCRAP the ridiculous restrictions on our rights to protest and the inhumane infringements to Gypsy Roma Traveller ways of life!

Bad news: is that we only have until tomorrow afternoon to make it happen!

❗️It's only days into 2022 and the Policing Bill is on the move. Fast. In December the Government has recently introduced amendments to make the Bill even more draconian - including a new offence for being 'equipped to lock on', which could make carrying a bike lock illegal.

🙌🏾 The (relatively) good news is that the latest amendments can fail if the Lords vote against them (unlike the rest of the Bill, which the Lords can only delay).
This makes it vital that we pressure the Lords right now to oppose them.

🥊 The next stage of fighting the Policing Bill (among others!) will involve targeting specific MP's to convince them not to dismantle what's left of democracy in the UK.


🗞 Calls, emails, & tweets are effective and greatly appreciated, but for those who want to do more:

Want to learn empowering & impactful new tactics for lobbying MP's & Lords around the Policing Bill, the Nationality & Borders Bill, or any of the authoritarian legislation making its way through Parliament (Health + Care Act, Elections Bill, Official Secrets Act, Online Safety Bill, Judicial Review Bill, British Bill of Rights/Scrapping the Human Rights Act)?

These tactics still include traditional lobbying (securing meetings with MP's) and also non-traditional, "enhanced lobbying" methods of confronting MP's with carefully-formulated questions wherever they may be (on the street, out to dinner, etc). The latter methods involve recording the Parliamentarian on video to document their response and thank them (or otherwise ) on social media.


🎁 For: Anyone who isn't shy at the though of speaking directly to MP's (in some cases, whether they want us to be or not). This isn't about being shouty-activist-confrontational. The less intimidating we look/behave, the greater the likelihood we'll secure an actual conversation, even if they're not expecting it.

MP's in particular are, after all, public servants. Sometimes they forget this. It's up to us to remind them.


🔧 By the end of the evening you will be better equipped to

*formulate a powerful question to pose to a Parliamentarian: one that succinctly informs the wider audience about the situation, references the MP's own stated position on something that aligns with what we're asking, and then poses the final "dilemma question" in such a way that they look like a hypocrite if they refuse our ask.

*know how to capture these moments on video and where to send them/who to tag for wider dissemination

*exert public pressure on those in government through both in-person and digital campaigns

*utilise local media to highlight your experiences and inform the public if anything unexpected transpired with their MP
