The order requires government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration. It also cuts federal funding to states that refuse to comply.
“Perhaps some people think I shouldn’t be complaining, because we won in a landslide, but we’re going to straighten out our elections,” Trump said. “This country is so sick because of the election, the fake elections and the bad elections.”
In order for states to receive federal funds for elections, they will be required to comply with “integrity measures set forth by Federal law, including the requirement that states use the national mail voter registration form that will now require proof of citizenship,” the order said.
“The Order improves the integrity of elections by directing the updating of the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 and security standards for voting equipment and prioritizing federal grant funds accordingly,” the administration said. “This includes requiring a voter-verifiable paper ballot record and not using ballots in which the counted vote is contained within a barcode or QR code.”
RNC Chair Michael Whatley called the move a “huge win.”
“HUGE WIN for election integrity. President Trump is keeping his promise to secure our elections. Requiring proof of citizenship, paper ballot trails, and investigating fraud are all commonsense steps to protect the vote,” Whatley posted on X.

Trump wrote a glowing review of Stefanik on TRUTH Social, stressing that, due to the slim GOP majority in the House, he needs her to stay put for now.
The 218-213 House majority currently affords the GOP the loss of just two votes on any party-line bill.
“As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress,” Trump said on TRUTH Social. “We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning.
“I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” the president added. “With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat.”
Before the nomination’s withdrawal was announced, a source close to the Trump administration told The New York Post that “there have been recent talks between [the] White House and Speaker [Mike Johnson]’s office about if it’s in the best interest of House Majority and president’s agenda to pull the nomination.”
The source added, “It’s all about the math.”
Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) replaced Stefanik as House Republican conference chair in January.
“The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!” Trump added.
Stefanik had already cleared committee, and was headed for a full confirmation vote in the upper chamber April 2.

During a recent interview with New York Times columnist Ezra Klein, Daily Show host Jon Stewart was stunned to learn how inefficiently the Biden administration’s $40 billion rural broadband program has been implemented.
Three years after President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021, not a single project had launched. Klein walked an increasingly exasperated Stewart through the 14-step process states must complete to access the funding.
“Step 12: States must run a competitive sub-granting process,” Klein said about four and a half minutes into the now-viral video.
“Oh my f–king God,” Stewart exclaimed. “That’s step 12… after all this has been done?”
“Yeah, none of that could have happened earlier,” Klein replied. “We’ve now lost 17 more applicants. So, 30 of 56 have completed step 12.”
Klein explained that after step 12, states must submit proposals to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which then reviews and approves them. Only three jurisdictions have made it to step 13.
“I’m speechless, Ezra,” Stewart said. “Honestly, it’s far worse than I could have imagined. But the fact that they amputated their own legs on this is what’s so stunning.”

“It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things, and will be meeting immediately after Canada’s upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors, that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada,” Trump said. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Carney released the following statement on X:
Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, spoke with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. The Prime Minister and the President had a very constructive conversation about the relationship between our two countries.
The leaders agreed to begin comprehensive negotiations about a new economic and security relationship immediately following the election. In the interim, the leaders agreed that conversations between the Minister of International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, Dominic LeBlanc, and the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, will intensify to address
immediate concerns.
The Prime Minister told the President that he would be working hard for the next month to earn the right to
represent Canada in those discussions.
The Prime Minister informed the President that his government will implement retaliatory tariffs to protect Canadian workers and our economy, following the announcement of additional U.S. trade actions on April 2, 2025.
Trump didn’t seem concerned when asked about the retaliatory tariffs Friday afternoon in the Oval Office.
“We’re going to end up with a very good relationship with Canada and a lot of the other countries,” the president told reporters.

“They’ll [the government] send the money overseas to one NGO [non-governmental organization], then they’ll go through a bunch of them, and then I’m highly confident that a bunch of that money then comes back to the United States and lands in the pockets of the people you just mentioned,” Musk replied.
“But it is a circuitous route. It doesn’t go directly, but let’s just say that there’s a lot of strangely wealthy members of Congress where I’m trying to connect the dots of, ‘How do they become rich?’”
“How do they get $20 million if they’re earning $200,000 a year?” Musk added. “We’re going to try to figure it out and certainly stop it from happening.”

“Last night, in a successful counter-terrorism operation with our allies in El Salvador, the United States military transferred a group of 17 violent criminals from the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 organizations, including murderers and rapists,” Rubio said.
“In order to keep the American people safe, @POTUS designated the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. These criminals will no longer terrorize our communities and citizens,” he continued.
“Once again, we extend our gratitude to @nayibbukele and the government of El Salvador for their unparalleled partnership in making our countries safe against transnational crime and terrorism,” his post concluded.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele shared a video of the transfer on X with the following message:
Last night, in a joint military operation with our allies from the United States, we transferred 17 extremely dangerous criminals linked to Tren de Aragua and MS-13. All individuals are confirmed murderers and high-profile offenders, including six child rapists. This operation is another step in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.

“Last night, in a successful counter-terrorism operation with our allies in El Salvador, the United States military transferred a group of 17 violent criminals from the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 organizations, including murderers and rapists,” Rubio said.
“In order to keep the American people safe, @POTUS designated the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. These criminals will no longer terrorize our communities and citizens,” he continued.
“Once again, we extend our gratitude to @nayibbukele and the government of El Salvador for their unparalleled partnership in making our countries safe against transnational crime and terrorism,” his post concluded.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele shared a video of the transfer on X with the following message:
Last night, in a joint military operation with our allies from the United States, we transferred 17 extremely dangerous criminals linked to Tren de Aragua and MS-13. All individuals are confirmed murderers and high-profile offenders, including six child rapists. This operation is another step in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.

It follows February crossings of roughly 8,300 illegal migrants — the lowest in at least 25 years.
Sources told the New York Post that it’s the “Trump Effect” at work; migrants are “scared there are consequences now,” said one DHS source, adding “everyone who is caught is charged and does time.”
“Illegal entries into the United States are no longer a backdoor way to getting status,” said another source.
Most of the roughly 7,000 crossings took place in the San Diego and El Paso border sectors, sources said.

If the border crossings continue to stay at these levels, the US could see the number of illegal migrants hit a low not seen since 1968.
Upon entering office, Trump declared an emergency at the border, sent thousands of additional troops to the region, shut off the asylum system to illegal crossers and commenced a mass deportation effort across the US.
With crossings slowing to a trickle, Border Patrol has closed several processing centers used to hold migrants for short periods of time.
Meanwhile, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has “maxed out” its detention space and is asking Congress to fund additional beds to support its mass deportation campaign that yielded 32,000 arrests in its first 50 days.

According to a Fox News report, one Texas man is suing a Tesla terrorist for one million dollars after his Model X was keyed at a Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport parking lot.
The suspect, Rafael Hernandez, was arrested on March 22 on a criminal mischief charge by the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office after being recorded by the Tesla’s built-in cameras striking the left side of the vehicle.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was driving when his Tesla was damaged in an airport parking lot. In footage obtained by Fox, Hernandez is seen pulling an object from his pocket and using it to damage the side of the Model X.
The Tesla owner told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview that the “motives were wrong, and [Hernandez’s] acts were intentional — it is for a judge and jury to decide, based on the facts, what his punishment should be. I believe strongly that I was targeted because my car is a Tesla. I didn’t even realize that this nationwide Tesla attack was even a thing — until I was thrown into that world. What’s important to me is that it happened, it was intentional, and it was wrong. As a result, I’ve been thrown into a nightmare, and I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
The lawsuit filed by the victim outlines “Individual owners of Tesla vehicles, like Plaintiff, are being targeted and victimized by ongoing criminal conduct and action. This has culminated in the ‘Tesla Takedown’ movement, where certain activists are urging consumers to divest from Tesla products and are organizing protests and other activities that are explicitly or implicitly urging physical damage and/or violence against Tesla owners and/or their Tesla vehicles. Plaintiff recently became a target and victim of this criminal conduct and action.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi is calling for strict sentencing for people who attack Teslas.
“I’ve made it clear: if you take part in the wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, we will find you, arrest you, and put you behind bars,” Bondi said on Musk’s social network X on Monday as she announced federal charges against Frederick.
In a recent op-ed for The New York Post, Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley pointed out the madness of the Democratic Party, rejecting all over their core principles after falling ill with Musk Derangement Syndrome.

According to a new book by reporter Jonathan Allen, co-author of FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, former President Barack Obama was working against Kamala Harris — actively trying to prevent the unpopular Veep from getting the Democratic Party nomination.
“President Obama absolutely did not think that Joe Biden should continue, according to our sources close to President Obama, and he also didn’t want Kamala Harris to be the replacement for Biden,” Allen said in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Tuesday.
“He didn’t think that she was the best choice for Democrats, and he worked really behind the scenes for a long time to try to have a mini-primary, or an open convention, or a mini-primary leading to an open convention. [He] did not have faith in her ability to win the election,” Allen said.
“He was really working against her,” he emphasized.
Even Top Democrats knew Obama objected to Harris at the top of the ticket.
“In one moment, he had set up a phone call with Congressman [James] Clyburn from South Carolina on the day that Joe Biden handed off the baton to Kamala Harris, and Obama had set up a call with Clyburn for like 5:30 that afternoon. And Clyburn thought to himself, this guy is going to try to rope me into the open convention thing, I better get my endorsement of Harris out there fast so this is a short conversation,” Allen relayed of the backroom power dynamics.

The Trump administration is defending its use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport members of Tren de Agua and remove Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national alleged to be part of MS-13.
Amid backlash from Democrats over Garcia’s deportation, Vance said they are “doing the American people’s business” by removing undocumented immigrants with serious criminal records.
“Back in 2019, an immigration judge looked at all the evidence, looked at all the data and concluded that this allegedly innocent person that we sent to El Salvador was actually a member of an MS-13 gang. He had also committed some traffic violations, he had not shown up for some court dates. This is not exactly father of the year here, this is a person that we don’t think should be in our country,” Vance said.
“Here’s the most important point, though, Lawrence [Jones] is whatever the argument is, whatever the justification is, no one doubts that no even the crazy, left-wing media criticizes the idea that we can deport this person,” the vice president continued. “They just took issue with the reasoning for why we deported this person. This was unquestionably an illegal alien, this was unquestionably a person who broke the laws to get into our country, this is unquestionably a person who an immigration judge had found had zero right to be in the United States of America. We do not ask permission from far-left Democrats before we deport illegal immigrants. We do the American people’s business.”
Vance expressed optimism that the U.S. Supreme Court will side with the administration as they continue to fight against the judges’ rulings that obstruct deportation efforts and more.
“You’re right, the courts, some radical left judges, have stepped in and said ‘you’re not allowed to deport MS-13 gang members.’ That’s crazy, we think the Supreme Court is gonna overrule it and we’re gonna keep on fighting for the president’s prerogative to enforce the law,” Vance said.

President Trump did his best to assuage worries of a dipping Dow Jones on Friday, telling followers on TRUTH Social to “HANG TOUGH.” Trump also mentioned the strong March jobs report.
“GREAT JOB NUMBERS, FAR BETTER THAN EXPECTED. IT’S ALREADY WORKING. HANG TOUGH, WE CAN’T LOSE!!!” Trump said on TRUTH Social.
US employers added a surprise 228,000 jobs in March — far exceeding expectations.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the news on X, saying, “GREAT NEWS! The economy is starting to roar with a strong 228,000 jobs added in the month of March — well ahead of the market’s expectation. There was also a sharp increase in transportation, construction, and warehousing employment. The President’s push to onshore jobs here in the United States is working. The Golden Age of America is on its way!”
But, despite a positive jobs report, the Trump Admin has a stock market dive on its hands due to reciprocal tariffs imposed by President Trump this week and retaliatory tariffs from China.
According to a Fox Business report, China announced a 34% tariff on the U.S., just days after Trump unveiled the same amount against Beijing under his reciprocal tariff plan.
The new China tariffs on the U.S. will take effect on April 10.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a briefing in Beijing yesterday that “The U.S. announced tariff hikes on imports from many countries, including China, under the pretext of reciprocity” and that “This gravely violates World Trade Organization rules, and undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system.
“China firmly rejects this and will do what is necessary to defend our legitimate rights and interests,” he added. “We have emphasized more than once that trade and tariff wars have no winners. Protectionism leads nowhere. We urge the U.S. to stop doing the wrong thing, and resolve trade differences with China and other countries through consultation with equality, respect and mutual benefit.”
“We knew this was going to be a little bit bumpy in the beginning, but let’s understand what it’s about. It’s about fairness. It’s about America first, not America last,” Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) told Fox Business Friday morning.
“We have been getting the short end of the stick for years and it’s important that Americans understand this. These are reciprocal tariffs. We have been tariffed. Our goods are tariffed. We are always at an unfair disadvantage with these countries so it’s going to be a little bumpy, they are going to cry, they are going to yell,” he continued. “I spoke to the president personally yesterday, he was telling me that already, countries are coming to him saying ‘lets work this out, we can make a fair deal, we can do better.’ We will. Everybody just hold on a little bit, be a little bit strong, Wall Street will come back. But this is also about Main Street, this is about making things in America.”

Shortly after Trump’s post, Powell said in prepared remarks, “Our obligation is to keep longer-term inflation expectations well anchored and to make certain that a one-time increase in the price level does not become an ongoing inflation problem. We are well-positioned to wait for greater clarity before considering any adjustments to our policy stance. It is too soon to say what will be the appropriate path for monetary policy.”
“While tariffs are highly likely to generate at least a temporary rise in inflation, it is also possible that the effects could be more persistent,” Powell added. “Avoiding that outcome would depend on keeping longer-term inflation expectations well anchored, on the size of the effects, and on how long it takes for them to pass through fully to prices.”
Powell wouldn’t comment on Trump’s remarks.
“I make it a practice not to respond to any elected officials’ comments, so I don’t want to be seen to be doing that. It’s just not appropriate for me,” Powell said at the onset of a question-and-answer session following his speech.
The Dow Industrial was down nearly 4.00% on Friday.

4月2日，美国总统川普宣布了“解放日关税”计划，尽管与原来宣称的“对等关税”相比是减半征收，但仍然有如石头般沉重砸在每个国家脚上。一直在忐忑不安中盼望能够幸免的亚洲国家终于知晓，东盟10+3（中日韩）除了文莱与新加坡之外，其余全部受到24%-49%的不同档次加征，中国更是受到特殊对待。国际舆论包括美国的全球主义媒体，当然都痛加挞伐。很少有人愿意正面现实，川普的解放日关税实施之日，就是全球化终结之时。
亚洲国家均遭受“解放日关税”冲击
“解放日关税”对所有国家出口至美国的商品征收最低10%关税，并对约60个对美存在贸易顺差的国家和地区征收更高关税。美国前十大贸易伙伴中，中国加征34%，加上此前两次的20%，其整体关税税率被大幅提升至54%。墨西哥、加拿大因芬太尼与非法移民而加征的25%关税豁免已于4月2日到期，欧盟等七大贸易伙伴因属于约60个“贸易行为不良”（指关税与非关税壁垒，影响美国企业的法规与税收等）国家，均获加征。被加征40%以上的亚洲国家依次为：柬埔寨49%；老挝48%，越南46%，缅甸44%，泰国36%，台湾32%，印尼32%，马来西亚24%。
东盟诸国对美国加征关税的反应不似美国盟友反应那么激烈。泰国总理佩通坦表示，泰国政府理解美方通过“对等贸易关税”调整贸易平衡的考量，将与美国沟通，并在近期发布详细的应对方案。越南计划在4月5日派遣由副总理胡德福带领的越南代表团访美，增加沟通。但一直认为自己是美国特殊保护对象的台湾无论朝野均悲愤莫名，做出少见的强烈反应。
川普意在终结WTO体制
如果认为国际社会的舆论指责会改变川普心意，可能过于乐观了。美国除了奥巴马为代表的全球主义者之外，还有“美国独行”这一被全球主义压制了几十年的国家主义传统，川普的解放日关税，实际上就是国家主义对全球化的挑战。
今年以来，就美国加征关税向WTO申诉的共有香港、中国政府，以及行将申诉的巴西政府。其实， WTO裁决执行与国家利益实现存在潜在背离是研究者早就多次指出的现象，川普的“对等关税”要求，是对克林顿总统任期内成立WTO的大逆转。克林顿号称“全球化第一推手”，为了推动全球化进程，将关贸总协定改为WTO，其基石是“最惠国待遇”原则。根据这一规则，成员国需对所有成员实行统一关税。但在实践过程中，除了美国之外，很多国家还有增值税（VAT）、碳税等非关税壁垒，各种贸易保护措施不断推陈出新，事实上只有美国市场才算是真正门户洞开。
川普指责各国都占美国的便宜，大体上没错。因为WTO框架下发展中国家可以合法享受差异化待遇，印度、巴西等新兴市场为保护本土产业，关税普遍高于美国。就连欧盟各国向美国产品征收的关税也远高于美国对欧盟同类产品的关税。例如，美国此前对欧盟汽车征收2.5%的关税，而欧盟对美汽车关税高达10%。川普宣布实行“对等关税”之后，日韩德墨加这五大对美汽车出口国已经提前进入“危机模式”。
简言之，美国推动成立WTO，对绝大多数国家施行最惠国条款，是因为美国希望扮演自由贸易问题上的领导角色；如今川普已经明说他就是美国总统，首要任务是对美国负责，自然不再需要WTO这一全球化的经济抓手。
真正挑战川普关税政策的力量来自美国国内
川普团队现在除了在国家层面解释关税战之所以必要之外，最缺的就是对症下药的为本国消费者释疑：加征关税不会导致物价上涨。
美国国内批评者一致认定，增加关税必须引致日常消费品的涨价。比如越南是全球最重要的运动鞋生产国之一，耐克约50%、阿迪达斯约39%的鞋类产品都集中于越南，年销售额合计超200亿美元。行业人士表示，由于运动鞋需要专业的生产线，短时间内转移生产链和供应链几乎不可能，最终结果只会导致终端市场上涨价。柬埔寨目前是美国第六大服装供应国，其制鞋和旅行用品也在美国市场占有重要地位。美国零售联合会（NRF）表示：”这些税款最终会转嫁给普通家庭，加剧通胀的压力。”
今年2月18日，美国耶鲁大学预算实验室公布的预测曾列举“对等关税”实施后美国消费者将受到的影响：美国有效关税税率将提高13个百分点，升至1937年以来最高水平；价格上涨幅度1.7-2.1%，相当于2024年平均每个家庭损失2700-3400美元，2025年GDP实际增长率将下降0.6-1.0个百分点。从长远来看，美国经济将持续萎缩0.3-0.6%，相当于2024年每年萎缩1000-1750亿美元。关税是累退税，底层家庭的损失将在 1,000 至 1,300 美元之间。服装和电子产品受到的影响尤为严重，机动车和药品的价格也会出现高于平均水平的上涨。
目前，川普的支持者不少都相信关税战是必要的恶，愿意为此忍受一段时间的痛苦。但关税战一旦开打，美国只是主导的一方，各国的反应与实时变化有很多随机因素，时间一长，物价上涨看不到头，国内压力就会增加，这种可能性不可忽视。
关税作为“美国外交的战略工具”还有其他内涵
川普总统与他的财长、商务部长都多次宣称关税是美国外交的重要战略工具，意义当然不止于税收的增加，至少还有振兴美国制造业与重塑地缘政治这两重目标。
美国经济学界对川普通过关税战振兴美国制造业的效力深表怀疑。4月2日，川普再次重申这些对等关税将使“美国工业重生”，他将这一天形容为“解放日”，是美国工业重生和国家命运重新掌握的日子。他对所有抱怨的公司或国家表示：“如果想让你们的关税税率为零，那么就在美国生产你们的产品。”《华尔街日报》在次日发表的《川普最新关税行动宣告全球化时代落幕》对此作出回应，称这意味着美国对过去几十年推动全球经济发展的高速全球化的支持落幕，但想让制造业回流美国，却并非易事——这一分析大抵没错，从奥巴马时代开始，历经三位总统，都将让制造业回流美国当作国策，但由于产业链重置及生产成本等问题太过复杂，只能通过近岸外包与友岸外包去了墨西哥、印度等地，效果并不理想。如今川普以关税战的方式给企业施加压力，其效果不一定在他的任期内完全显现。

多年以来，世界上只有美国在践行全球主义，其他的国家都是全球主义为表国家主义为里。践行全球主义的代价是川普接过36万亿巨额国债与1.2117万亿美元贸易逆差这个财政与贸易双赤字的摊子，要想挽救美国，只能施以雷霆手段。但最近30年以来，世界早就听惯了西方左派那种冠冕堂皇的全球化理论，与该理论的各种道义包装（人权高于主权、环保、保护性少数群体等弱者利益）相比，赤裸裸地诉诸于国家利益的川普主义太过生硬，一时之间很难被接受。

4月2日，美国总统川普宣布了“解放日关税”计划，尽管与原来宣称的“对等关税”相比是减半征收，但仍然有如石头般沉重砸在每个国家脚上。一直在忐忑不安中盼望能够幸免的亚洲国家终于知晓，东盟10+3（中日韩）除了文莱与新加坡之外，其余全部受到24%-49%的不同档次加征，中国更是受到特殊对待。国际舆论包括美国的全球主义媒体，当然都痛加挞伐。很少有人愿意正面现实，川普的解放日关税实施之日，就是全球化终结之时。
亚洲国家均遭受“解放日关税”冲击
“解放日关税”对所有国家出口至美国的商品征收最低10%关税，并对约60个对美存在贸易顺差的国家和地区征收更高关税。美国前十大贸易伙伴中，中国加征34%，加上此前两次的20%，其整体关税税率被大幅提升至54%。墨西哥、加拿大因芬太尼与非法移民而加征的25%关税豁免已于4月2日到期，欧盟等七大贸易伙伴因属于约60个“贸易行为不良”（指关税与非关税壁垒，影响美国企业的法规与税收等）国家，均获加征。被加征40%以上的亚洲国家依次为：柬埔寨49%；老挝48%，越南46%，缅甸44%，泰国36%，台湾32%，印尼32%，马来西亚24%。
东盟诸国对美国加征关税的反应不似美国盟友反应那么激烈。泰国总理佩通坦表示，泰国政府理解美方通过“对等贸易关税”调整贸易平衡的考量，将与美国沟通，并在近期发布详细的应对方案。越南计划在4月5日派遣由副总理胡德福带领的越南代表团访美，增加沟通。但一直认为自己是美国特殊保护对象的台湾无论朝野均悲愤莫名，做出少见的强烈反应。
川普意在终结WTO体制
如果认为国际社会的舆论指责会改变川普心意，可能过于乐观了。美国除了奥巴马为代表的全球主义者之外，还有“美国独行”这一被全球主义压制了几十年的国家主义传统，川普的解放日关税，实际上就是国家主义对全球化的挑战。
今年以来，就美国加征关税向WTO申诉的共有香港、中国政府，以及行将申诉的巴西政府。其实， WTO裁决执行与国家利益实现存在潜在背离是研究者早就多次指出的现象，川普的“对等关税”要求，是对克林顿总统任期内成立WTO的大逆转。克林顿号称“全球化第一推手”，为了推动全球化进程，将关贸总协定改为WTO，其基石是“最惠国待遇”原则。根据这一规则，成员国需对所有成员实行统一关税。但在实践过程中，除了美国之外，很多国家还有增值税（VAT）、碳税等非关税壁垒，各种贸易保护措施不断推陈出新，事实上只有美国市场才算是真正门户洞开。
川普指责各国都占美国的便宜，大体上没错。因为WTO框架下发展中国家可以合法享受差异化待遇，印度、巴西等新兴市场为保护本土产业，关税普遍高于美国。就连欧盟各国向美国产品征收的关税也远高于美国对欧盟同类产品的关税。例如，美国此前对欧盟汽车征收2.5%的关税，而欧盟对美汽车关税高达10%。川普宣布实行“对等关税”之后，日韩德墨加这五大对美汽车出口国已经提前进入“危机模式”。
简言之，美国推动成立WTO，对绝大多数国家施行最惠国条款，是因为美国希望扮演自由贸易问题上的领导角色；如今川普已经明说他就是美国总统，首要任务是对美国负责，自然不再需要WTO这一全球化的经济抓手。
真正挑战川普关税政策的力量来自美国国内
川普团队现在除了在国家层面解释关税战之所以必要之外，最缺的就是对症下药的为本国消费者释疑：加征关税不会导致物价上涨。
美国国内批评者一致认定，增加关税必须引致日常消费品的涨价。比如越南是全球最重要的运动鞋生产国之一，耐克约50%、阿迪达斯约39%的鞋类产品都集中于越南，年销售额合计超200亿美元。行业人士表示，由于运动鞋需要专业的生产线，短时间内转移生产链和供应链几乎不可能，最终结果只会导致终端市场上涨价。柬埔寨目前是美国第六大服装供应国，其制鞋和旅行用品也在美国市场占有重要地位。美国零售联合会（NRF）表示：”这些税款最终会转嫁给普通家庭，加剧通胀的压力。”
今年2月18日，美国耶鲁大学预算实验室公布的预测曾列举“对等关税”实施后美国消费者将受到的影响：美国有效关税税率将提高13个百分点，升至1937年以来最高水平；价格上涨幅度1.7-2.1%，相当于2024年平均每个家庭损失2700-3400美元，2025年GDP实际增长率将下降0.6-1.0个百分点。从长远来看，美国经济将持续萎缩0.3-0.6%，相当于2024年每年萎缩1000-1750亿美元。关税是累退税，底层家庭的损失将在 1,000 至 1,300 美元之间。服装和电子产品受到的影响尤为严重，机动车和药品的价格也会出现高于平均水平的上涨。
目前，川普的支持者不少都相信关税战是必要的恶，愿意为此忍受一段时间的痛苦。但关税战一旦开打，美国只是主导的一方，各国的反应与实时变化有很多随机因素，时间一长，物价上涨看不到头，国内压力就会增加，这种可能性不可忽视。

美国经济学界对川普通过关税战振兴美国制造业的效力深表怀疑。4月2日，川普再次重申这些对等关税将使“美国工业重生”，他将这一天形容为“解放日”，是美国工业重生和国家命运重新掌握的日子。他对所有抱怨的公司或国家表示：“如果想让你们的关税税率为零，那么就在美国生产你们的产品。”《华尔街日报》在次日发表的《川普最新关税行动宣告全球化时代落幕》对此作出回应，称这意味着美国对过去几十年推动全球经济发展的高速全球化的支持落幕，但想让制造业回流美国，却并非易事——这一分析大抵没错，从奥巴马时代开始，历经三位总统，都将让制造业回流美国当作国策，但由于产业链重置及生产成本等问题太过复杂，只能通过近岸外包与友岸外包去了墨西哥、印度等地，效果并不理想。如今川普以关税战的方式给企业施加压力，其效果不一定在他的任期内完全显现。

President Donald Trump unloaded on China in a late-morning TRUTH Social post on Monday. The POTUS threatened an additional 50% tariff on the Red Giant unless it backed off its plan to implement a 34% tariff on American goods starting this week.
Trump posted the following to his TRUTH Social account late Monday morning:
Yesterday, China issued Retaliatory Tariffs of 34%, on top of their already record setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long term Currency Manipulation, despite my warning that any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs, above and beyond their already existing long term Tariff abuse of our Nation, will be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set. Therefore, if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th. Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
The White House also pushed back on false reports that there are plans for a 90-day pause on tariffs in the works.
A White House spokesperson tells FOX Business’ Edward Lawrence that there is no plan to pause tariffs on U.S. trading partners. The tariffs plan is in place and there are no plans to change the plan, according to the spokesperson.
Trump is encouraging Americans to be “strong, courageous, and patient” as the economy corrects itself.
“Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place,” Trump shared on TRUTH.
“This is despite the fact that the biggest abuser of them all, China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its Tariffs by 34%, on top of its long-term ridiculously high Tariffs (Plus!), not acknowledging my warning for abusing countries not to retaliate,” he continued. “They’ve made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA! Our past “leaders” are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

“The people are not savvy about issues but they smell a phony a mile away and that kind of s–t, nobody else does it.”
“You know, he has those moments that no other politician has. And the Democrats have to find that guy,” Maher admitted. “But let’s be real — they’ve been searching for years, and they’re still coming up empty.”
One moment he distinctly recalled was when Trump threatened the Taliban leader following former President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“When he did that thing where the guy came in from the Taliban and he said, ‘This is an aerial picture of your house. If during our withdrawal one American is hurt, just know I know where you live,’” Maher said.
“I was like, ‘Oh, can we just play the music now? Because I don’t care it’s Donald Trump and he’s the worst person ever, blah, blah, blah — I f–king love that!,’” he said.

The US is “way ahead right now in the AI race with China,” Trump told reporters Monday during an event in the Oval Office. But, Trump added, the provision of electric power for data centers is critical to maintaining that advantage.
Trump is slated to sign the executive order during a 3 p.m. event in the East Room of the White House, with attendees set to include executives from some of the US’s biggest mining companies, including Peabody Energy Corp., Core Natural Resources Inc. and Ramaco Resources, Inc.
