🔥 Close-up of the Sun

The Solar Orbiter spacecraft (a joint project of ESA and NASA) has taken a stunning image of the Sun from a distance of only 77 million kilometers! The photo shows fine particles in the magnetic field, dark “filaments” and bright areas of activity, ready to set off cosmic fireworks at any moment.

The most interesting thing is that this is not a simple photo, but a photomontage of 200 separate images!

In Chongqing, 5,000 drones staged a new night performance: 3D figures, symbols of the city, flowering camellias and even animated plots with trains and noodles ‘danced’ in the sky. Now such shows are a regular feature of the metropolis, 90 times a year.

NASA for the first time from orbit filmed the rover Curiosity directly in motion: HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured on 28 February 2025, as the rover leisurely rolls along the crater Gale, leaving behind a 320-metre trail. The speed is 0.16 kilometres per hour, but for science history, that's quite a sprint! 🚀

Seiko showed a prototype of Sundial - “Watch Exclusively for Sunny Men”, designed by Yu Ishihara for the Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition. It is not just an accessory, but a miniature equatorial solar observatory: the case opens, a gnomon (a pin for shade) is hidden inside, there is a bubble level and degree locks for different latitudes.

The watch shows the time only when the sun is shining, and the accuracy is up to -0.58 seconds per year. The model is a one-of-a-kind piece and is not for sale yet, but such unique watches usually cost around $27,000.

Dubai hosted a spectacular drone show in honor of TON: thousands of drones soared into the sky synchronously over Bluewaters Island and JBR beach, forming giant 3D light figures and logos.

The show drew crowds, and the visual effects combined traditional motifs and modern symbols, including elements of TON. Such a large-scale performance was part of the festival and further proof that Dubai is the capital of tech shows. 🚁

Chinese dam “Three Gorges” slowed down the rotation of the Earth - a giant reservoir with a volume of 40 cubic kilometers shifted the mass of the planet, due to which the day lengthened by 0.06 microseconds. NASA notes: the effect is microscopic, but measurable, and the Earth's axis has shifted by about 2 centimeters. Now that's how engineering changes the physics of the planet! 🌏

The one-of-a-kind Big Surf artificial wave pool in Tempe is a true mecca for surfers in the middle of the Arizona desert! Opened in 1969, it is considered the first wave pool in the United States and a pioneer of artificial wave technology.

The pool generates waves up to 3 feet high, allowing beginners to practice surfing in a safe environment. Experienced surfers may find it a bit boring, but for those who live away from the ocean, it's a great alternative.

The best time to visit is from May through September, when the heat in Arizona is at its peak. You'll have to pay about $30 to visit, which is pretty affordable for an attraction of this magnitude.
