#1427: Game development internships

Hi, I am an aspiring game developer. I would love to intern at a game studio.

Could any seniors who interned or worked at game studios share their experience? I would also love recommendations for game studios that hire interns. I think this would help those similar to me too, thanks!

#1428: What are you guys doing during winter?

Currently I have just been binge watching netflix (Itaewon class is damn nice you all should try it) ever since finals ended and I am feeling a bit too nua and tired of resting??. and mostly going out with friends as well. I am wondering if there's anything 'productive' I can do during winter that's also quite chill? Thinking of maybe learning a new programming language like C++ or python cos they are not really taught in sch

#1429: Google New Grad

Heard that google has very few new grad headcounts in sg, so some fresh grads, even returning interns, will have to wait for 1 year to join google? Is that true?

[POLL] #1448: Should I specify that I’m from NUS CS on dating apps

Hey I have an important question: so if I’m from NUS CS, should I specify that in my bio on a dating app or should I just stick to NUS student. Will saying that I’m from CS help me get girls since it’s known that the average salary is quite high? Would be helpful if someone A/B tested this before and can share his experience. Just want to maximise my chances here

Options:
1. Yes
2. No

#1559: Conclusion for #1448: putting NUS CS on dating app

Got more matches after not putting NUS CS. Thanks everyone for your kind advice. it worked! I think the perception that NUS CS boys are too geeky is still true

#1588: Are topics like OS/computer networking still important?

From what I observe, NUS CS tends to place emphasis on learning more theoretical CS stuff like OS/computer networking while other schools, particularly SMU, seems to be like teaching web dev/GCP/AWS stuff which seems more practical? During my internship I didn't even touch any of the things I learned about os/networking as I was doing web dev and I found myself clueless about this topic and I feel quite disadvantaged. Is there still any point learning like OS or smth given that what we are going to do at work is completely different? I can't even find a web dev mod to take in NUS CS, except

#1680: next sem will be my 5th sem of purely online classes

when SoC sent the email saying that the school will be pushing for f2f classes wherever possible for the upcoming semester, i was so happy because i thought finally i'll have a reason to come to school and get to meet new friends. but somehow all my modules (of which 3 are cs mods) are online classes again.

honestly i'm feeling really sad to know that literally more half of my uni will be completely online

#1732: when is NUS COM3 opening?

Y3 CS student here and I see that they have been building com3 since I joined NUS. Anyone know when it will be opening? Will be really looking forward to the new facilities and possibly a canteen for computing? A bit sick of the food at the deck already

#1739: Is macbook air suitable for CS students

Hi guys, I’m thinking to get a macbook and i am leaning towards macbook air as it is the lightest. However, I’m afraid that it is not good enough for programming tasks or VMs that require x86. Should i get the macbook pro (older version) or settle for macbook air?

#1792: Should I switch to a macbook as a CS student?

I am currently using a windows laptop and have been trying to survive on windows subsystem for linux for my cs coursework. I thought of installing linux but it just feels so troublesome and not a lot of software is compatible with linux as well. And windows kinda sucks for programming. Is it worth it for me to switch over to a mac? I feel like im jumping through a lot of hoops using windows for CS

[POLL] #1857: Why are you studying computing for?

Just want to see how many people here are studying computing because they like it, or because of the money (you saw how much CS undergrads are getting paid in the MOE survey), or other reasons? Since I have been hearing how more and more people are coming into CS because of the better job prospects

Options:
1. I love studying computing
