The beautiful J of Arcane Accents is going through the unimaginable right now. The loss of a wonderful husband and father is deeply devastating and my heart breaks for her and her son. Please rally around her and show your support for this dear friend, amazing mother and talented artist during such a difficult time.

If you're an artist and wish to get involved in an art auction being organised to raise funds for J and her son, please contact @thewitchmother for more details, or join the @monthlywhiteartchallenge chat for updates.

Support @arcaneaccents and find her website here.

The Sacred Rowan
Sorbus aucuparia, known as rowan or mountain ash, is a humble yet powerful tree in nature as well as mythology. Latin "sorbus" means "red" and English "rowan" comes from Germanic "raud-inan" which means "to redden", referring to the red berries and their usage. The Old English name cwicbeam and the Old Dutch name kwekkeboom both mean something like "life-tree". A fitting name: the berries are popular food for birds and the saplings are often eaten by wildlife. These names, combined with the evidence of using the twigs/berries to protect against evil magic, a practice widespread in Europe, give us valuable insight into the usage of the rowan in Heathenry. The meaning of the Old English "tรชafor" is also connected: magic by reddening.
The third image shows the rowan that saved Thunor from drowning in the Vimur river, as told in the skรกldskaparmรกl. This, together with the fact that rowans often grow under or nearby oak trees, connect the tree to Sif, Thunor's wife.
Hail the lively rowan!
As many of you are aware our beloved J of Arcane Accents is dealing with a familial tragedy. In times like these we must come together as folk and do everything we can to help out. She is an extraordinary artist, a pillar of our community and a wonderful mother and friend.
I am organizing an art auction to raise money to go directly to her. The auction will be just in time to snag incredible handmade art and wares made by our folk with so much love to gift for the holidays. We have donations coming in from incredible artisans and if youโ€™d like to contribute please get in touch with me asap @thewitchmother for further details. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for this auction and when announced share share share so we can raise as much as possible.

Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Be sure to pour one out for the brave and noble dead who fought arduously for their homeland, before and after the battle was over.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Thank you all for supporting Hearthfire Radio. This is a big step forward for heathenry. So many of you have reached out and said things like "this has been needed for years". It's a labour of love.

But the reality is, it's also very expensive. We budgeted for it to run 3 months before it has to pay for itself. We are now halfway through that 3-month period and we are also halfway to the number of subscriptions we need. But the bulk of people signed up right away, so this means that we are actually behind, and may not meet our goal in time.

So please don't wait to sign up, or it might be too late. This is our best shot to have our own platform.

We're going to launch a few things that will make it easier to support us. Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far. Please send a DM to your friends and tell them about us. The more eyes we can get in front of, the better our chances.
You need to be using your talents, whatever they are, for the greater good of European spirituality.

Of course, some people will be able to do more than others, for various reasons. I'm just some guy who reads philosophy and poetry after work, and I try to share some of that with you. But we all have to contribute as much as we can, in whatever ways we can.

If you're artistic or musical, make art and music. If you're into history, use that knowledge to educate and defend. If you're into philosophy, use it to clarify, defend, and elaborate European spirituality. If you're good at planning and organizing, plan and organize meetings and the like.

Ideally, use your talents, not simply for self-expression or your own enjoyment, but for the betterment of the community. Make music for us. We need a common music. We need prayer books. We need solid defenses against common objections. We need guides, devotionals, journals. We need everything.

And in everything you do, hold yourself to a high standard. Do it as if your descendants will be using it for centuries. Put everything you can into it.

There's something for everyone to do.

A very happy Winterfylleth to you all. I and the Hearth of Devon will be meeting tonight on Exmoor, where we perform blรณt upon a barrow.
May the gods and the elves bless you all tonight as we hail in the start of winter!
Some pics from the blรณt and the Ingui Frea weoh I made for my good friend and gydda of the Hearth of Devon, Tom Rowsell. The weather was the best we've had for Winterfylleth (it's usually cold, windy and wet) and the rite went very well. Now to finish the second Ingui Frea stapol
