Holidays in our multicultural nation: Maslenitsa (масленица)
Maslenitsa is a traditional Russian holiday celebrating the last week before the Great Lent. Great Lent (Великий пост) is a period of 40 days when Orthodox Christians fast by avoiding foods such as meat, eggs, and dairy products. The week of Maslenitsa is celebrated by using these foods and combining them into блины or crepes, although meat is already forbidden at that time. This year, Maslenitsa is from February 24 to March 1. The holiday has its roots in paganism and is also related to the Christian holiday Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday.

Today is Saint Patrick's Day! What is this American holiday?
🍀 The celebration, also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick, actually originates in Ireland. It is held annually on March 17, marking the death of Ireland's patron saint. Typically, celebrations in Ireland include going to mass in church, as well as parades and other public celebrations.
🇺🇸 So what does this have to do with the United States? The USA is a nation of immigrants! Around 10 percent of its population identify as being of Irish or partially Irish ancestry 🇮🇪 This makes St. Patrick's day a big celebration of Irish-American heritage and culture in the States 💚 One of the traditions is wearing something green, or else people around you have the right to pinch you!
