Astral Projection for Computers

Remote login is a lot like astral projection for computers, as illustrated in Figure 7.1. In astral projection, you visualize some distant person and sud-denly, Boom, instead of being in your own body, it seems as if you're in some other, distant body.* You "see" what their eyes see, and when you "give your body a command" like "pick up that glass up milk," you're commanding this remote body to move. Similarly, as a computer user, you often want to use computers that aren't where you are. Remote login is a way to become a user of a computer other than the one you're directly connected to, using your computer as a terminal.

*For example, the DC Comics character DeadMan, the still-Earthbound spirit of circus acrobat Boston Brand, would routinely possess people's bodies to interact with the real world. Over at Marvel Comics, Dr. Strange often seemed to send his astral self out as casually as you'd walk out to get a quart of milk.

How to cut your arm off without hurt or danger

You provide yourself with two knives, a true one and a false one, and when you go to show this feat, put the true knife in your pocket, and then take out the false and clap it on your wrist undiscovered, and with a sponge make the knife bloody, and it will appear you have nearly severed your arm.
