A Canning Town Gem hidden among modernism and a society that barely notices it.

We're losing pubs by what feels like the day at this point, properties like this matter!

The City Arms #RIP ⚰️
Address: 2 Dock Rd, #CanningTown, #London, #E16 Opened before 1867, closed 1934 @hate_modernism
#CanningTown in east #London & it's surrounding area's have a name for housing armed robbers. @BrothersUncaged was left some interesting relics from bygone days which many east enders would adore. These are some of the bank bags & the butt of a gun which saw action long ago.

Both sites saw the thriving working class community of the east end during it's better days. Now even the downtrodden places we once loved seem more morbid than ever.

Mccabe Court, #E16 - This horrific building on #BarkingRoad, #CanningTown has been left uncompleted for years. It simply sits & rots as the weather decays it. Meanwhile it's quoted as a "modern and well maintained block" with a "plethora of amenities on your doorstep"...
A depressing, nostalgic image of the 'Anchor' pub on Star Lane, #CanningTown, east #London in 1983. This industrial area was once a safe place for us to conduct business, now, it's becoming another hipsters paradise. @Britains___Pubs

Today, we visited BJ's where Nathan (owner) joined us for a long conversation about the trade both past and present. His part in this short video is brief. He joined us for a long chat off camera. We hope to hear and see more from Nathan and others like him in the future and may release a few clips as he was OK with it being recorded. Thank you all for the support. Be sure to seek out pie and mash shops as, like our pubs, they're worth saving. 🤝🍻

Ghost #Hovis sign on #BarkingRoad in #CanningTown/#Plaistow. Signs like this are still hanging all over London, for now.

Isn't is strange that the poverty of the past still had more class than the endless new buildings which house the wealthy today.

Barking Road is a world of pub stores and pub losses all to itself. This hostelry is the first one would have come across on the high street. A pub with a troublesome reputation and a world class boxing legacy, now it's building serves as a Turkish restaurant. 🍻

The world we knew won't be logged for future generations as our future generations will have no interest in the culture or world we cared for. Economic "progress", never compares to preservation.

■ The allelopathy of a poisoned weed has overgrown, killed & replaced our roots.

This exclusive image hangs on the wall of BJ's pie and mash on Barking Road in #CanningTown, East #London. We've never had much, even if we've told otherwise. It's fair to say the Empire and the industrial revolution left us with little to enjoy, other than each other. 🤝
