#OnThisDay the English diarist and naval administrator Samuel Pepys, best known for his Diary which recorded events through Royal/parliamentary wars, the plague and the great fire of #London, died at age 70.
#OnThisDay 1961 Dominican leader/"dictator" Rafael Trujillo ("The Chief/The Boss) was assassinated (CIA/other accused). He had sympathy with nationalist states such as Germany & rejected internationalism. President Kennedy (also assassinated) allegedly tried to stop the murder.
#OnThisDay in 1536 #England's King #HenryVIII marries #JaneSeymour, his 3rd wife who died of postnatal complications after giving birth. She gave Henry his heir under the future (boy) King #EdwardVI who would die young and be replaced first by #JaneGrey before #MaryTudor I.
#OnThisDay in medieval 1381, an #English uprising known as the #PeasantsRevolt took place. Uprisings in #Essex, #Kent & #London would have #RichardII meet & lie to the rebels at #MileEnd. Today the left/mainstream try to claim this as their own form of proto-socialist history.

#OnThisDay in 1949 author #GeorgeOrwell published the dystopian classic Nineteen Eighty-four with concepts such as Big Brother/Thought Police. Orwell (orewlian) and his work became part of the English language. However, his book is nowhere near as bad as today's government's.
#OnThisDay 1916 The Battle of the Somme began (Somme Offensive, #WW1). Over 3 million took part, of whom 1 million were wounded or killed, making this event one of the worst battles in all history. Another tragic injustice and loss of European lives. #WhatAWaste
#OnThisDay - #CharlesDickens (February 7, 1812), one of the most respected English fiction writers of all time, was born in #Portsmouth, #Hampshire, #England. His works have surpassed that of any lifetime and will continue to do so.
