【Calling for food donation🫵

V Hongkongers are calling for Hongkongers in Toronto to donate Hong Kong-style instant noodles, canned food, snacks and Lunar New Year food.

If you want to donate anything or have come across anyone who wants to do so, please DM us.

‼️Please donate food suitable for stockpiling, rather than fresh food‼️

We have enough friends at Moss Park Market that day to distribute donated food. But if you want to chat with locals or get a taste of volunteering here, feel free to DM us through Instagram @vhongkongers.

Deadline: Feb. 23 (Thursday)
【Moss Park Market

【Food Sharing at Moss Park Market】

V Hongkongers teamed up with Toronto-based community organization Building Roots last Saturday to set up booths at the Moss Park Market. We shared with locals Hong Kong-style snacks and other durable food.

Thanks to the donations from many Hongkongers, we got a variety of food to share with our friends in the Moss Park neighbourhood. Many locals, as well as the volunteers we worked with, found Hong Kong snacks unique and said they hoped to try the food again.

With the help of Hongkongers who just arrived here and also those who have been here for many years, we showed to Canadian communities how much Hongkongers are willing to help and helped connect one another.

We also want to thank Building Roots for their contributions to Canadian communities. We are thankful for their trust in Hongkongers and for providing us with a place to share our food and culture with locals.

【National Volunteer Week】

Do you know next week, from April 16 to 22, is the National Volunteer Week? It’s a time for all of us to celebrate our efforts to strengthen the fabric of our community!

Like each thread makes a weave stronger, each individual’s perspective and talent also add to our diverse yet interconnected collective.

From sharing cultural food, planting trees to volunteering in food banks, museums and hospitals, we believe there’re many ways to contribute to the growth and positive changes in society.

V Hongkongers will continue to hold different volunteering activities in the summer. Stay tuned for our updates and we look forward to seeing you in our journey to build Canada a better home!

On April 15 (Saturday), our crew teamed up with a volunteer we met on Instagram to help out at a VR event hosted by Myseum of Toronto.📱

This creative event was held in Allan Gardens and let people use their phones to check out the future of our city.🌆

We established new friendship with locals and was inspired by this thought-provoking experience. V Hongkongers believe it's important for new immigrants from Hong Kong to get involved in community matters. We also appreciate Myseum of Toronto for organizing different historical and cultural events, and help to connect Torontonians together! 💪

On the morning of August 26, we stepped out of the bustling metropolis into the peaceful embrace of Black Creek Community Farm. Meeting new friends and bonding over the simple joys of farming were truly rewarding.

Around ten of us gathered to help harvest tomatoes and peas from the fields. What touched us the most was seeing animal bites on the crops. It reminded us of how we are all connected to the land and all of its inhabitants. We also came to realise how difficult it is to preserve food in the fields and bring them to our tables.

Moments like these also reminded us of how important it is to support local organisations and work together to build our community.
