🏁 THE LIGHTS ARE OUT, THE ENGINES ARE SCREAMING, AND THE MIDFIELD IS ABOUT TO GET A LOT MORE DANGEROUS.

Twenty two cars launch toward Turn 1, tyres are fighting for grip, drivers are searching for the smallest gap, and somewhere in the middle of all that chaos sits a Haas with one very particular problem: the driver behind the wheel isn’t exactly interested in giving anyone an easy afternoon. Meet Esteban Ocon, the tall Frenchman from Normandy who has apparently decided that Formula 1 doesn’t need another superhero. It needs a symbiote.

Ocon's journey to F1 was anything but ordinary. He won the European Formula 3 Championship in 2014 ahead of Max Verstappen, became GP3 champion in 2015, and made his Formula 1 debut with Manor in 2016. Since then, he's raced for Force India, served as a Mercedes reserve driver, and competed for Renault and Alpine before joining Haas in 2025. At this point, Ocon has changed teams so many times that even his symbiote probably needs a team-issued travel itinerary.

Then came Hungary 2021. While the rest of the grid was busy turning the race into absolute chaos, Ocon simply stayed alive, kept his head down, and crossed the chequered flag in P1. His maiden Formula 1 victory also became Alpine’s first win. Most drivers celebrate their first victory with champagne. Ocon apparently celebrated by giving the symbiote its first proper meal.

And if there is one thing Venom loves more than chaos, it’s rain. Ocon took his first podium at Sakhir in 2020, added another at Monaco in 2023, and then delivered a spectacular second place at the rain-soaked São Paulo Grand Prix in 2024. When the track becomes slippery, visibility disappears and everyone starts questioning their strategy, Ocon somehow seems to think, “Excellent. This is where we hunt.”

His greatest superpower, however, might be defending. Trying to overtake Ocon can feel less like passing a Formula 1 car and more like trying to squeeze a refrigerator through a doorway while the refrigerator is moving at 300 kilometres per hour and has absolutely no intention of moving aside. Add his famously tall frame to the equation and suddenly the Haas cockpit looks less like a racing seat and more like an engineering experiment titled, “How Much Esteban Can We Fit in Here?”

Now, with Haas, Ocon continues his Formula 1 journey into 2026 alongside Oliver Bearman. The team may be different, the regulations may be different, and the cars may be different, but the hunger remains exactly the same. Points, positions, podiums—and any piece of asphalt that another driver foolishly believes belongs to them.

So when the lights go out and that Haas charges into Turn 1, remember: you’re not simply watching Esteban Ocon racing. You’re watching the symbiote go to work. He doesn’t swing between buildings, he doesn't shoot webs, and he certainly doesn’t ask politely for space.
