📰 NEWS | Venezuela Rebukes Guyana Over Cross-Border Gold Smuggling Allegations

Venezuela has rejected claims by Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali that Venezuelan gold is being trafficked across the border. The Maduro government denounced the accusations as 'baseless' and politically driven, particularly as they were made at a US Embassy event in Georgetown.

Although Guyanese media reported recent gold seizures, no evidence has surfaced linking the shipments to Venezuela. Caracas maintains that Ali’s remarks aim to justify growing US military and political involvement in the region.

📝 INTERVIEW | Juan Lenzo: ‘We Need to Integrate the Communal Economy to Face the Capitalist Maelstrom’

Juan Lenzo, a Venezuelan activist, takes stock of the Communard Union’s current strengths and challenges, with a particular focus on consolidating the communal economy.

Today, 117 communes are part of the Union. To strengthen economic planning, the organization is mapping grassroots productive activity and identifying opportunities to rebuild the communal economy after years of crisis.

One of its flagship efforts is the “Patria Grande del Sur” project in Bolívar state: a 187,000-hectare initiative developed with Brazil’s MST and local campesino communities. The goal is to build a communal agroecological system in phases, from infrastructure to production and education. “We’re not trying to strengthen the old state, we’re building a communal one,” he said.

📑🖊 OPINION | What July 5th Taught Me That July 4th Never Did

Michelle Ellner, a Venezuelan-American activist and CODEPINK campaigner, reflects on what July 5th in Venezuela taught her that July 4th in the U.S. never did.

While the U.S. commemorates its independence with celebrations, Venezuela’s July 5 marks an ongoing struggle for sovereignty — one met with sanctions, asset freezes, and foreign interference.

Ellner recalls the 2002 U.S.-backed coup against Chávez and a broader campaign of economic warfare that continues under Nicolás Maduro. “True independence,” she writes, “is the right to choose your own path without being punished for it.”

🖊 COLUMN | Trump 2.0 on Venezuela: The Maximum Pressure Has Been Against Migrants

As US sanctions persist and migrants are criminalized, Clodovaldo Hernández examines Trump's seemingly aimless strategy towards Caracas.

In five months, 252 Venezuelans were deported and jailed in El Salvador under Trump’s renewed pressure campaign. Even migrants with TPS, visas, or parole have been targeted.

Trump has not recognized María Corina Machado or Edmundo González Urrutia, but has reinstated sanctions and restricted Chevron’s operations.

The campaign for Venezuela’s July 27 municipal vote is officially underway. Voters will elect 335 mayors and 2,471 municipal councilors. Indigenous communities will select 69 representatives in accordance with their traditions.

The Great Patriotic Pole (GPP), led by the ruling PSUV and 12 allied forces, began with rallies across the country. The bloc pledged to campaign door-to-door in all 335 municipalities. The vote will coincide with the National Popular Consultation, in which youth-led project proposals will be selected for state funding of $10,000 each. Organized communities will be responsible for executing the initiatives.

📑🖊 OPINION | Socialist Communes and Anti-Imperialism: The Marxist Approach

Chris Gilbert analyzes when a commune or communal project can be considered anti-imperialist, drawing on Marx’s theoretical foundations.

One expression of this framework came in 2024. According to Gilbert, it was exemplified when Palestinian revolutionary Leila Khaled visited the El Panal Commune in Caracas. She praised it as a concrete example of sovereignty under U.S. sanctions, drawing parallels with the Palestinian struggle for national liberation. That same year, Venezuela also deepened its communal strategy by launching quarterly consultations and expanding public funding to strengthen commune powers.
