📰 NEWS | Two-year-old Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal has been reunited with her family in Venezuela after being forcibly separated by US authorities.

Thanks to efforts by the Nicolás Maduro government and talks with the Trump administration’s Special Envoy Richard Grenell, Maikelys was brought back from the US on a flight Wednesday morning. The child had spent a year in US foster care after her parents were detained upon entering the US in May last year. Her mother, Yorely Bernal Inciarte, was recently deported to Venezuela, and her father, Maiker Espinoza Escalona, was sent in March to El Salvador's CECOT prison.

Maikelys’ story caught international headlines as the Trump administration advances the criminalization and rapid deportation of Venezuelan nationals without due process.

📰 NEWS | Venezuela: Oil Output Contracts as Foreign Partners Lobby for License Extensions

OPEC reported Venezuela’s April oil production at 888,000 bpd (a 34,000 bpd drop from March) while exports fell 20%, largely due to canceled Chevron cargoes. The U.S. oil giant, alongside other firms, faces a May 27 deadline to exit Venezuela unless license extensions are granted.

Chevron has urged Washington to modify its sanctions waiver, warning that a withdrawal could strengthen China’s role in the country’s energy sector. Venezuela has begun rerouting shipments to China and reiterated its call for foreign investment.

📑🖊 OPINION | ‘Neoliberal and Authoritarian’? A Simplistic Analysis of the Maduro Government that Leaves Much Unsaid

Steve Ellner dissects Gabriel Hetland’s simplistic critique of Maduro's government, calling it a one-sided take that ignores key facts. Hetland downplays the brutal impact of U.S. sanctions, like the blocking of bond negotiations and the Petro’s swift blacklisting, and misrepresents the government’s relationship with grassroots power. Ellner points to the 'Year of the Communes' and Ángel Prado’s appointment as proof of ongoing support for popular democracy.

📝 INTERVIEW | ‘We’re Building a New Way of Life’: A Conversation with National Assembly Candidate Albanys Montilla

Albanys Montilla, a 27-year-old PSUV candidate and lifelong communard, believes the National Assembly must create laws that empower Venezuela’s communes to manage resources directly, without intermediaries.

She speaks about growing up under imperialist aggression and how sanctions fractured Venezuelan families, especially hurting women and youth. But Montilla also emphasizes the commune’s role in rebuilding consciousness through collective work and direct democracy.

'The commune is not just a slogan, it’s a reality we’re constructing. The new parliament must pass laws that let communities manage resources themselves.'
