Aesop's Fables: Truth and the Traveller

A WAYFARING MAN, traveling in the desert, met a woman standing alone and terribly dejected. He inquired of her, "Who art thou?" "My name is Truth," she replied. "And for what cause," he asked, "have you left the city to dwell alone here in the wilderness?" She made answer, "Because in former times, falsehood was with few, but is now with all men."

Archimedes' Death "[..]intent upon working out some problem by a diagram, and having fixed his mind alike and his eyes upon the subject [..] In this transport of study and contemplation, a soldier, unexpectedly coming up to him, commanded him to follow to Marcellus; which he declining to do before he had worked out his problem to a demonstration, the soldier, enraged, drew his sword and ran him through. Others write, that a Roman soldier, running upon him with a drawn sword, offered to kill him; and that Archimedes, looking back, earnestly besought him to hold his hand a little while, that he might not leave what he was then at work upon inconclusive and imperfect; but the soldier, nothing moved by his entreaty, instantly killed him. Others again relate, that as Archimedes was carrying to Marcellus mathematical instruments, dials, spheres, and angles, by which the magnitude of the sun might be measured to the sight, some soldiers seeing him, and thinking that he carried gold in a vessel, slew him"

I'm here to tell you about really the only Jewish Empire in History." Svyatoslav of Kiev (a Slav) abolished this kingdom.

Explanation of the Structural and Functional Characteristics of Geographical Buffer Spaces
Mohammad Reza Hafeznia

“A buffer state is a weak power between two or more stronger ones, maintained or even created with the purpose of reducing conflict between them” (Wight,1995:160).

A well written article on Buffer States.

"Great powers try their best to prevent their rivals from annexing buffer states or converting them into their satellites. Under the balance of power (and sometimes even in its absence) any attempt by one of the buffered powers to invade the buffer, causes reciprocal actions by the other buffered power (s)."

The dismemberment of Yugoslavia and the European Union (2001)
Erik Faucompret

"Yugoslavia was such an artificial state created by the superpowers after World War ΙΙ, to keep the peace in Central-Europe. It is [possible] for a government to succeed in keeping alive artificial states. Belgium is a case in point. Nations require from their governments three objectives to be achieved: domestic and international security, material welfare and cultural commitment."

"...alliances with buffer states carry a very real risk of dragging its members into a conflict at an inopportune time."
