"Robey Leibbrandt was born on 25 January 1913 in Potchefstroom, South Africa. As a boxer, he reached the semifinals at the Berlin Olympics in 1936, where his admiration swelled for the German Führer, Adolf Hitler. During the Second World War he found himself in Germany, when the South African Union government supported England against Germany. Aided by the German Army, he secretly returned to South Africa in 1941 on the sailboat Kyloe and made contact with the Ossewabrandwag, which was strongly opposed to the government's war policy. He sets up a core group of 300 men to sabotage the Smuts government in its war effort. As a rebel, he believed in the freedom of Afrikaners and wanted to spur his fellow countrymen (just as Hitler did) to unprecedented heights. After his arrest, he was sentenced to death in 1943, which was later commuted to life imprisonment. He was released in 1948. On 1 Aug 1966, this romantic figure from the time of the Ossewabrandwag passed away."

Arturo A. Schomburg, son of merchant Don Carlos F. Schomburg, was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic lodge who dedicated several decades to researching black history in the early 20th century, and is heavily promoted in black history month. He spent approximately thirty years involved in Masonry. He was also active in the revolutionary movements of Puerto Rico and Cuba.

In Puerto Rico and Cuba, Masonic lodges served as meeting sites for criollo and artisan elites and, after the 1820s, became centers for closed meetings and revolutionary activities. The Revolutions of Yara (Cuba) and Lares (Puerto Rico) in 1868 had significant Masonic leadership and an abolitionist agenda (Ayala, Ferrer Benimelli). These local chapters were mainly composed of middle-class and poorer artisans, including criollos, blacks, and mulattos. These chapters operated separately from Peninsular lodges affiliated with the Great Lodge of Spain (Ayala).

In the United States, Schomburg became affiliated with two organizations around the turn of the century: the Club Revolucionario Dos Antillas (1892–1896) and El Sol de Cuba (founded in 1881, Schomburg joined in 1892). El Sol de Cuba was a Prince Hall Masonic lodge established by immigrants from the Spanish Caribbean. Schomburg’s involvement in El Sol de Cuba, which was composed mainly of Spanish Caribbean migrants or Spanish-speaking West Indies migrants, coincided with his membership in the revolutionary Club Dos Antillas, where he served as Secretary from 1892 to 1896.
