Cossack roots of Tchaikovsky
The grandfather of the composer, Pyotr Fyodorovich Tchaikovsky, was born in 1745 in the village of Nikolaevka in the Poltava Governorate, into the family of a Cossack, Fyodor Chaika, a participant in the Battle of Poltava. He studied at the Kyiv Academy, and in 1769 he was transferred to continue his education at the Saint Petersburg Military Land Hospital. After completing his studies, Pyotr Fyodorovich, with the rank of assistant physician, was assigned to the active army. He took part in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774 and was promoted to physician. In 1777, together with the regiment in which he served, Tchaikovsky was transferred to Perm, where he retired. The first place of his civil service was the town of Kungur, where for several years he served as a city physician. At the beginning of 1782, Pyotr Fyodorovich was transferred to the same position in the provincial
city of Vyatka with the rank of staff physician.

If we concern ourselves with what we shall eat and what we shall drink, how we shall commit sin, how to dress up this stinking body which tomorrow will be eaten by worms, and do not concern ourselves about our soul which is eternal, then we can't be called human beings, but animals. So make your body a servant of the soul, and then you can call yourselves human beings.

Thomas R. Deutscher on the deletion of "Dr. Ludwig":
"This wasn't about quick profit. The channel was never monetized, according to its own statement. Instead, over a long period, German songs, history, and cultural content were collected, curated, and made accessible. In particular, many young Germans have thereby found access for the first time in a while to a piece of their own cultural identity. While others just talk, he (Dr. Ludwig) built and preserved something. That something like this simply vanishes is a hard blow."
