Debunked: “Let them eat cake” quote attributed to Marie-Antoinette, the queen of France during the French Revolution.
The earliest known source connecting the quote with the queen was published more than 50 years after the French Revolution.
In an 1843 issue of the journal Les Guêpes, the French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr reported having found the quote in a “book dated 1760". He was probably just repeating something he had heard.

DANKE ES! (1923)
“When your mother has grown older,
When her dear, faithful eyes
no longer see life as they once did,
When her feet, grown tired,
No longer want to carry her as she walks –
Then lend her your arm in support,
Escort her with happy pleasure.
The hour will come when, weeping, you
Must accompany her on her final walk.
And if she asks you something,
Then give her an answer.
And if she asks again, then speak!
And if she asks yet again, respond to her,
Not impatiently, but with gentle calm.
And if she cannot understand you properly
Explain all to her happily.
The hour will come, the bitter hour,
When her mouth asks for nothing more.”

The Old Synagogue of Pretoria, South Africa
On the 11th December 1895, Simon Eeinbergand and Herman Manneschwitz bought Erf 103 from Thomas Patterson for the local Jewish community for £1500.On the 1st October 1897, architects, Ilber and Beardwood were commissioned to design the synagogue in a Byzantine manner. The building’s budget was not to exceed £5000. But as any project, the budget escalated and was slightly less than £6000 even though Samuel Marks donated electrical lighting fixtures for £300 as well as the bricks for the project. The Jewish congregation ran into more financial difficulties because the street facade is the only facade that has the Byzantine theme. The other elevations do not carry on the same theme. Face brick and sandstone detailing was omitted due to the cost and a cheaper alternative was to use cheap bricks and plaster on the facades of the building, but even through the financial difficulties the Synagogue opened its doors to the public on the 20th August 1898.

Spy History: Spyfall (RT Short Documentary)
Mysterious film footage found in a Moscow flat sheds light on long-forgotten spy games in Syria back in the 1960s. At the time, the country was almost being torn apart by the activities of Western and Soviet intelligence, and Israeli spy Eli Cohen was thought to be pulling strings in the country as tension grew in the Arab world.

Nasty infamous traitors.
Given the critical situation in which we find ourselves, following the recent roundups made by the Nazi-Fascists, it would be advisable to raise the morale of the patriots, to communicate to the English placement captain Patt, the possibility of carrying out some terrorist bombing and strafing actions on the surroundings of Turin, and possibly on Turin itself.
This would cause resentment in the population not against the allies, but against the Germans who occupy this region. This would certainly bring the population to our side.
You know what support and benevolence on the part of the cowardly means. Proceed as soon as possible.

Architecture: The Corner House, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Designed by the architectural firm of William Leck & Fred Emley, it was one of the first buildings in Johannesburg to be built using a steel structure, that was designed in, and imported from New York. This trend was so cutting edge that it was used in Johannesburg before London.
he façade mostly consists early Edwardian features but boasts some Victorian touches like the bay windows as well as the central dome. Features that was more widely used a decade before.
This (Third) Corner House has 493 windows – a great improvement from the first Corner House, that only had 6.
The building was a sight to behold in 1904. It was the first skyscraper in Johannesburg – 9 stories, towering 38m above the pavement. People from all over town flocked to see this marvelous building.
