It was found that by excluding the smaller buyers and thus limiting competition, a loss per carat was sustained, in fact prices receded from 21s/6d to 17s/- per carat - an important consideration."

This video clip is from the PBS Documentary "The March of the Bonus Army" (2006), about the US Army veterans who had been promised, but not paid a bonus for the period served in WW1. They had also become impoverished by the Great Depression. Around 45 000 of these men marched on Washington DC to demand their bonus. Instead of honouring the commitment, General Douglas MacArthur in command of a contingent of infantry and cavalry, supported by six tanks was ordered by President Herbert Hoover to remove them.
