I will give you an excerpt from my letter in which I tried to describe to my old friend from Europe about railway modeling situation in my country
"I conducted several provocations in order to study the audience of modelers more deeply. To do this, I started a blog on the Russian-language dZen social network, where I posted several articles. I'm pretty good at writing texts that get a great response. The main thing for me was not to win an audience (as I found out, this is absolutely not a necessary thing), but the character of the modelers, their motivation for our hobby and most importantly, their level of technical training.
Here is my conclusion:
In Russia, extremely egocentric people with very big psychological problems are engaged in railway modeling. Modeling for them is an attempt to escape from the real world and it does not imply a result in the form of a working layout or system. They are ready to postpone the result indefinitely, because the process is much more important to them. It follows from this that for them it is absolutely not important how their system will function and they practically do not pay attention to technical details. Connecting the rails on a whim or how it turns out and the belief that modern technologies and computers will do everything for them - it will only be necessary to find a good program later. Any attempt to ask them a question about how it will work causes very aggressive responses. Obviously, these are very introverted people with very big egos who are not able to create any stable communities. "
