P1, Part B - Human Geography:
(This year, I attempted 3 questions from Physical Geography, unlike my previous attempts where I gave more importance to Human Geography. I request everyone to choose the questions where one feels most confident and not the ones where the coaching put their most focus.)
Sources and Strategy:
1. Perspectives in Human Geography:
Done from 500+ classes of 2021. The topic of HDI was completed using Google and NCERT (class 12). Don't read anything end-to-end. UPSC asks questions in a pattern. Hence, you can read topics selectively. For eg, if behaviouralism has been asked this year, it won't be asked for next year. I didn't use these theories unnecessarily in other questions.
2. Economic Geography:
Notes of 500+ and Shabbir Sir's class notes. This section requires practice of detailed maps like GDP-wise classification of nations, hunger index, energy resources, industrial regions of world, trade flows, Whittlesey regions etc. Again, use PYQ to focus on high yielding topics.
3. Population and Settlement Geography:
Again, same classnotes as mentioned above. This is a relatively easier topic, as questions are predictable from this section. Brownie points can be earned if we put detailed and unique case studies (eg. Mumbai region and its sprawl) along with well-labelled maps. Link the settlement schemes of India - SMART cities, PURA initiative, RURBAN Mission etc in the answers. This section has enough theories too, which must be written in the answers to fetch more marks.
4. Regional Planning:
Honestly, I just completed a few topics from this part - "Growth centres and growth poles, Regional imbalances" from the above mentioned class notes.
I wrote on other topics like- "Planning for sustainable development" from my GS knowledge. Please include good regional case studies to make them look like an optional answer.
5. Models, Theories and Laws in Human Geography:
Again, an easier section. You can use your own resources/class notes to complete the topics. Direct questions come from these theories, which can only be written well if you remember them. Hence, revision is the key for this section.

Space relationship of India with neighboring countries; Structure and relief; Drainage system and watersheds; Physiographic regions; Mechanism of Indian monsoons and rainfall patterns; Tropical cyclones and western disturbances; Floods and droughts; Climatic regions; Natural vegetation, Soil types and their distributions.

Types, patterns, and morphology of rural settlements; Urban developments; Morphology of Indian cities; Functional classification of Indian cities; Conurbations and metropolitan regions; Urban sprawl; Slums and associated problems; Town planning; Problems of urbanisation and remedies.
Source: 500+ Notes of 2021. Khullar. Memorise all of the content well (eg, RP Misra's Model, Ashok Mitra's Classification). Don't confuse Metro cities/Conurbations/Mega Cities etc. Have separate content for each concept. I wrote good case studies for this topic taken from NCERT and Down to Earth.

Experience of regional planning in India; Five Year Plans; Integrated rural development programmes; Panchayati Raj and decentralised planning; Command area development; Watershed management; Planning for backward area, desert, drought-prone, hill tribal area development; Multi-level planning; Regional planning and development of island territories.

Ecological issues: Environmental hazards: landslides, earthquakes, Tsunamis, floods and droughts, epidemics; Issues related to environmental pollution; Changes in patterns of land use; Principles of environmental impact assessment and environmental management; Population explosion and food security; Environmental degradation; Deforestation, desertification, and soil erosion; Problems of agrarian and industrial unrest; Regional disparities in economic development; Concept of sustainable growth and development; Environmental awareness; Linkage of rivers; Globalisation and Indian economy.
