πŸ”†Nipah Monoclonal antibodies trial

India may begin human clinical trials for a novel Nipah monoclonal antibody, MBP1F5, in 2025, following regulatory approval. A similar trial will also be conducted in Bangladesh.

Nipah virus has a high mortality rate of 40% to 75%, with recent outbreaks reported in Kerala, India, and widespread infections in Bangladesh since 2001

The novel monoclonal antibody is in phase-1 trials in the U.S., led by the U.S. Department of Defence. These trials are funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

Preclinical studies have shown the antibody to be highly potent against Nipah virus and safe at all tested doses. It binds to the Nipah virus F protein, preventing the virus from entering a host cell.

This antibody offers protection for at least six months, covering both known strains of Nipah and the Hendra virus, ensuring time for vaccine immunity to develop.

The research reveals that microdroplets of water can break down minerals into nanoparticles, a process that is not possible with bulk water.

Due to their small size and closely packed water molecules, microdroplets are more reactive and capable of engaging in chemical reactions at a much faster rate, sometimes up to a million times faster than bulk water.

βœ…This is the first national Vigyan awards announced by the government.

βœ…Till 2023, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award was India’s top
science honour.
It was named after Bhatnagar,a renowned chemist who was the first chairman of the University Grants Commission and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and in whose name the awards were instituted in 1958

βœ… Thirty-three of these awards are slated to be given on August 23, the National Space Day to mark Chandrayaan 3’s moon landing, and were announced on Wednesday (August 7, 2024)

βœ…Noted biochemist and former director of the Indian Institute of Science, G. Padmanabhan, was announced as the winner of the Vigyan Ratna. Thirteen scientists spanning a diverse set of fields from physics, chemistry, mathematics, atomic energy, biological sciences, earth sciences were awarded the Vigyan Shree and 18 scientists were nominated for the Viyan Yuva.
