Major Tectonic Plates
• Eurasian Plate: Covers much of Europe
and Asia, extending to the Mid-Atlantic
Ridge.
• Pacific Plate: The largest oceanic plate,
responsible for the majority of volcanic
activity around the "Ring of Fire."
• Indo-Australian Plate: Includes parts of
the Indian Ocean and Australia,
responsible for seismic activity in the
Himalayan region.
• North American Plate: Extends from the
Atlantic Ocean to the San Andreas Fault.
• African Plate: Includes the African
continent and surrounding oceanic crust,
associated with the East African Rift.
• South American Plate: Extends into the
Atlantic Ocean; its collision with the
Nazca Plate forms the Andes mountains.
• Nazca Plate: An oceanic plate off the
western coast of South America, involved
in subduction under the South American
Plate.
• Antarctic Plate: Covers Antarctica and
extends outward into surrounding oceans.

✅️ Four more wetlands included under the Ramsar Convention
This has increased wetlands tally from 85 to 89, highest in Asia, third globally. Wetlands have been added from Tamil Nadu, Sikkim and Jharkhand.
Tamil Nadu leads with 20 Ramsar sites, the highest among Indian states.
Sikkim and Jharkhand have added their first Ramsar sites.

Objective: Provides a framework for national and international efforts to conserve and wisely use wetlands.
World Wetlands Day is celebrated on 2nd February
This has increased wetlands tally from 85 to 89, highest in Asia, third globally. Wetlands have been added from Tamil Nadu, Sikkim and Jharkhand.

📝 If you’ve registered for Prelims 2025 but won’t be attempting the exam, you can still help us by providing a clean English prelims paper (no pen marks). Hindi medium papers are welcome if the English side is untouched.
✅ Contributors who share the prelims question paper — or refer someone who can — will be rewarded fairly!
