The Prophetโs (๏ทบ) statement:
ยซุฅููู ุงูููููู ููุญูุจูู ุงูุฑูููููู ููู ุงููุฃูู ูุฑู ููููููู:ยป
"Indeed, Allah loves gentleness in all matters"
Waliyyud-Dฤซn al โIrฤqฤซ (d. 826 AH ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) comments:
ูููู ู ููู ุนูุธููู ู ุฎููููููู - ุนููููููู ุงูุตููููุงุฉู ููุงูุณููููุงู ู - ููููู ูุงูู ุญูููู ููู
Is from the magnificent character of the Prophet (ุนููู ุงูุตูุงุฉ ูุงูุณูุงู ) and his perfect forbearance.
ููููููู ุญูุซูู ุนูููู ุงูุฑูููููู ููุงูุตููุจูุฑู ููุงููุญูููู ู ููู ูููุงุทูููุฉู ุงููููุงุณู ู ูุง ููู ู ุชูุฏูุนู ุญูุงุฌูุฉู ุฅููู ุงููู ูุฎูุงุดูููุฉู.
It encourages gentleness, patience, forbearance, and kindness towards people as long as there is no need for harshness.
ููููููู ุงุณูุชูุญูุจูุงุจู ุชูุบูุงูููู ุฃููููู ุงููููุถููู ุนููู ุณููููู ุงููู ูุจูุทูููููู ุฅุฐูุง ููู ู ููุชูุฑูุชููุจู ุนููููููู ู ูููุณูุฏูุฉู
It also contains a recommendation that people of virtue overlook the foolishness of wrongdoers if no greater harm will result from it.
ููููู ุงูุชููููุฒูููู {ููุฃูุนูุฑูุถู ุนููู ุงููุฌูุงููููููู} [ุงูุฃุนุฑุงู: ูกูฉูฉ]
It says in the revelation (the Quran): {And turn away from the ignorant} [Al-A'raf: 199].

Imam al-Shafi'i (ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) said: "The prudent, intelligent person is the shrewd one who overlooks."
ููู ููู ููููุงู ู ุจูุนูุถูููู ูุ ุนูุธููู ููุง ู ูููุงุฏููุฑูููู ู ุจูุงูุชููุบูุงูููู
And some have said, "Enhance your status by ignoring [such matters]."
Waliyyud-Dฤซn al โIrฤqฤซ (ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) then comments:
ููููุฐูุง ุงููููููุงู ู ู ูู ููุง ููุงูู ููุงููุฏูู - ุฑูุญูู ููู ุงูููููู - ููุคูุฏููุจูููู ุจููู ููู ู ูุจูุฏูุฃู ุดูุจูุงุจูู ุญูููู ููุฑูู ุบูุถูุจูู ู ููู ููููู ูุงุชู ุชูุฑูุฏู ุนูููููู.
This was something my father (the great Hadฤซth scholar, al Hฤfidh Zain al-Dฤซn al โIrฤqฤซ ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) used to teach me of manners at the beginning of my youth when he saw my anger at words directed towards me.โ

๐๐ The Essential Components of Self-Mastery
๐๏ธThe following advice of Ibn al Qayyim (ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) is extremely useful and comprehensive. I first heard it nearly 25 years ago from my dear brother Abu Uwais Abdullah Ahmad โAlฤซ (ุฑุญู ูู ุง ุงููู ุชุนุงูู) from the book Al Fawaโid in a brief reminder in Detroit. It resonated strongly with me, particularly the part about cautiously interacting with others; I rediscovered it a little over 15 years ago and memorized it verbatim. Since then, I have shared it on many occasions, and have especially directed it at youth at the cusp of adulthood. Each characteristic is explained in significant detail elsewhere in his writings. Do yourself a favor and give it a quick, yet careful & contemplative, reading:

Brave, daring, a master over his delusions, not subdued under the dominion of his imagination;
ุฒุงูุฏุง ููู ูู ู ูุง ุณูู ู ูุทููููุจู ุนูุงุดูููุง ูู ุง ุชูุฌู ุฅููููููู
Disinterested in everything except his goal; Loving what he is directed towards;

Knowledgeable of the path to reach it and the obstacles preventing it;

Constantly calm and continually thinking;

Not swayed by the pleasure of praise nor the pain of blame;

Taking it upon himself to take the means to support himself;

His motto is patience;

Not mingling with people except cautiously, like a bird plucking seed from their midst;

Personally undertaking self-motivation and self-dissuasion;
ุทุงู ุนุง ููู ูุชุงุฆุฌ ุงููุงุฎูุชูุตูุงุต ุนูู ุจูู ุฌูุณู
Aspiring for the results of exceptionality in surpassing his own kind;
ุบูุฑ ู ูุฑูุณู ุดูููุฆุง ู ู ุญูุงุณู ุนูุจูุซุง ููููุง ู ุณุฑุญุง ุฎูุงุทุฑู ููู ู ูุฑูุงุชูุจ ุงููููููู
Not letting any of his senses roam in vain nor letting his thoughts wander in the realms of the universe.
ูู ูุงู ุฐูููู ูุฌุฑ ุงูุนูุงุฆุฏ ูููุทุน ุงูุนูุงุฆู ุงูุญุงุฆูุฉ ุจููููู ููุจููู ุงููู ูุทููููุจ
The essence of this is abandoning (individual or cultural) habits and severing ties that come between you and your goal.
ููุนูุฏ ุงููุนููุงู ุฃูู ููุฒููู ุงููุฃูุฏูุจ ู ูุนู ุงููุญุฌุงุจ ุฎูุฑ ู ู ุฅุทุฑุงุญ ุงููุฃูุฏูุจ ู ูุนู ุงููููุดูู
And among the common people, adherence to decorum while remaining unenlightened is better than casting off decorum while achieving enlightenment.โ

Allah, the Exalted, says: "Indeed, if I grant good health to a servant and provide him with ample sustenance, and five years pass without him coming to visit Me, he is indeed deprived."
[Graded Sahih by Al Albฤnฤซ in Sahih al-Jami' (1909)] collected by At-Tabarani in "Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat" (486), Ibn Hibban (3703), and Al-Bayhaqi (10695) with slight variations.

[THE STRANGEST OF THE STRANGERS]
I wanted to share the translation of a beautiful benefit that was sent to me last week by my beloved brother and elder, Shaykh Abu Muhammad Al Maghribi (ุญูุธู ุงููู ูุฑุนุงู):
Imam Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Al Hussayn Al-Ajurri (d. 360 AH ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) said:
" ๏บ๏ป๏บฎ๏บ ๏บ๏ป๏ป๏บฎ๏บ๏บ๏บ ๏ป๏ปฒ ๏ปญ๏ป๏บ๏ปจ๏บ ๏ปซ๏บฌ๏บ : ๏ปฃ๏ปฆ ๏บ๏บง๏บฌ ๏บ๏บ๏ป๏บด๏ปจ๏ปฆ ๏ปญ๏บป๏บ๏บฎ ๏ป๏ป ๏ปด๏ปฌ๏บุ

"The strangest of strangers in our time is the one who adheres to the Sunnah and is patient with it, exercises caution against innovations and is patient in avoiding them, follows the footsteps of the predecessors from the leaders of the Muslims, understands his time and the severity of its corruption and the corruption of its people.

Thus, he occupies himself with rectifying his own affairs, safeguarding his limbs, refraining from delving into what does not concern him, working on mending his shortcomings, seeking from the world what suffices him, avoiding excessive wealth that leads to transgression, diplomatically accommodating the people of his time without compromising, and enduring all of that with patience.

1๏ธโฃ First: The perspective of monotheism, recognizing that Allah is the one who decreed, willed, and created it. Whatever Allah wills happens, and whatever He does not will does not happen.

Shaykh Dr. โArafฤt b. Hasan al Muhammadi (ุญูุธู ุงููู ูุฑุนุงู) was recently asked a number of important questions about the typical kinds of differences that commonly threaten to split the ranks of Ahl al-Sunnah in various lands; he responded:
"ุงูุฃุณุจุงุจู ููุฃุณูู ุชุชุนูููู ุจุญุธูุธู ุงูููุณูุ ููุฐู ุญูููุฉู ู ุฑูุฉู ูุตุนุจุฉู. ุฃุตุญุงุจู ู ููุฌู ูุงุญุฏู ููุฑุฌุนููู ุฅูู ุตุฑุงุทู ู ุณุชููู ู ูููุฏู ุนูู ุงุกู ูุจุงุฑู ู ู ูุถูู ุงููู ุนุฒ ูุฌูุ ูููุฏููู ูุฐุง ุงูู ููุฌู ููุฑุฌุนู ุฅูููู .
Unfortunately, the causes are related to personal interests, and this is a bitter and difficult truth. Those who follow one Manhaj (methodology) and return to the straight path, led by great scholars who, by the grace of Allah, guide this methodology, and we turn to them.
ูุนูู ุงุคููุง ูู ุนูู ุงุกู ูุคูุงุกู ุงูู ุฎุชููููุ ููู ุฏุฎูู ุงูุดูุทุงูู ูุถุฎูู ู ุงูุฃุฎุทุงุกู ูุญุตูู ุงูุชุฌุงูุฒูุ ููุง ูุชุบุงููู ุงูุฃุฎู ุนู ุฃุฎููู.
Our scholars are the scholars of those who differ, but the devil has interfered, magnifying the mistakes, and transgressions have occurred. One brother does not overlook the other.

In reality, these matters have nothing to do with the Manhaj (methodology).

We have experienced, heard, seen, and been involved in many of these issues, except for those whom Allah has shown mercy.

Someone may be honest in mentioning some mistakes, even if they are methodological, but remedying them might be done incorrectly.

This is what I have heard our senior scholars clearly state. Moreover, they have added that one of the greatest causes of disagreement is the love of leadership.

Some young people want to take the lead, which is a disease that can be hidden or apparent. They want to lead, and if they are not given this position, they claim there is a disagreement and assert that there are issues that need to be addressed, saying this person has this and that person has that.
ูุจุนุถููู ูุฎูุถู ูู ุฃู ูุฑู ุงูุณูุงุณุฉูุ ููุฃุชู ุทุฑูู ุขุฎุฑู ููุฎูุถู ูู ุทุฑูู ุขุฎุฑูุ ูุฐุง ูุชุทุฑูู ูู ุทุฑููุ ููุฐุง ูู ุทุฑููุ ููุฌุนูููููุง ู ุณุงุฆูู ู ููุฌููุฉูุ ููู ูุง ุนูุงูุฉู ููุง ุจุงูู ููุฌูุ ุฅูู ุง ูู ุณูุงุณุฉู ูููุงู ู ูุงุฑุบู.
Some of them get involved in politics, and another party gets involved in another side, one extreme in one direction, and another in the opposite, making these methodological issues when they have nothing to do with the methodology. It is merely politics and empty talk.

๐๏ธ [Important Measures for Maintaining Unity between Ahl Al-Sunnah]
Shaykh Dr. โArafฤt b. Hasan al Muhammadi (ุญูุธู ุงููู ูุฑุนุงู) was recently asked a number of important questions about the typical kinds of differences that commonly threaten to split the ranks of Ahl al-Sunnah in various lands; he responded:
"ุงูุฃุณุจุงุจู ููุฃุณูู ุชุชุนูููู ุจุญุธูุธู ุงูููุณูุ ููุฐู ุญูููุฉู ู ุฑูุฉู ูุตุนุจุฉู. ุฃุตุญุงุจู ู ููุฌู ูุงุญุฏู ููุฑุฌุนููู ุฅูู ุตุฑุงุทู ู ุณุชููู ู ูููุฏู ุนูู ุงุกู ูุจุงุฑู ู ู ูุถูู ุงููู ุนุฒ ูุฌูุ ูููุฏููู ูุฐุง ุงูู ููุฌู ููุฑุฌุนู ุฅูููู .
Unfortunately, the causes are related to personal interests, and this is a bitter and difficult truth. Those who follow one Manhaj (methodology) and return to the straight path, led by great scholars who, by the grace of Allah, guide this methodology, and we turn to them.
ูุนูู ุงุคููุง ูู ุนูู ุงุกู ูุคูุงุกู ุงูู ุฎุชููููุ ููู ุฏุฎูู ุงูุดูุทุงูู ูุถุฎูู ู ุงูุฃุฎุทุงุกู ูุญุตูู ุงูุชุฌุงูุฒูุ ููุง ูุชุบุงููู ุงูุฃุฎู ุนู ุฃุฎููู.
Our scholars are the scholars of those who differ, but the devil has interfered, magnifying the mistakes, and transgressions have occurred. One brother does not overlook the other.
ููู ุงูุญูููุฉูุ ูุง ุนูุงูุฉู ุจุงูู ููุฌู ููุฐูู ุงูุฃู ูุฑูุ ูุง ุนูุงูุฉู.
In reality, these matters have nothing to do with the Manhaj (methodology).
ูุฃูููุง ูุฏ ุฌุฑุจูุง ูุณู ุนูุง ูุฑุฃููุง ูุฏุฎููุง ูู ูุซูุฑู ู ู ูุฐู ุงูู ุดุงููู ุฅูุง ู ู ุฑุญู ุงููู.
We have experienced, heard, seen, and been involved in many of these issues, except for those whom Allah has shown mercy.
ููุฏ ููููู ุตุงุฏูุงู ูู ุฐูุฑู ุจุนุถู ุงูุฃุฎุทุงุกูุ ูู ุน ุฐูู ูู ูุงู ุตุงุฏูุงู ูู ุฐูุฑู ุจุนุถู ุงูุฃุฎุทุงุกู ููู ูุงูุช ู ููุฌููุฉูุ ูููู ุงูุนูุงุฌู ููุง ุฎุงุทุฆุงู ูุง ููุญุณู ุฃู ููุนุงูุฌู.
Someone may be honest in mentioning some mistakes, even if they are methodological, but remedying them might be done incorrectly.
ููุฐุง ุงูุฐู ุฃูููู ูุฏ ุณู ุนุช ู ุดุงูุฎูุง ุงููุจุงุฑ ูุตุฑุญูู ุจู ุจู ุฒุงุฏูุง ุฃู ู ู ุฃุนุธู ุฃุณุจุงุจ ุงูุฎูุงู ุญุจ ุงูุฒุนุงู ุฉ.
This is what I have heard our senior scholars clearly state. Moreover, they have added that one of the greatest causes of disagreement is the love of leadership.

Some young people want to take the lead, which is a disease that can be hidden or apparent. They want to lead, and if they are not given this position, they claim there is a disagreement and assert that there are issues that need to be addressed, saying this person has this and that person has that.
ูุจุนุถููู ูุฎูุถู ูู ุฃู ูุฑู ุงูุณูุงุณุฉูุ ููุฃุชู ุทุฑูู ุขุฎุฑู ููุฎูุถู ูู ุทุฑูู ุขุฎุฑูุ ูุฐุง ูุชุทุฑูู ูู ุทุฑููุ ููุฐุง ูู ุทุฑููุ ููุฌุนูููููุง ู ุณุงุฆูู ู ููุฌููุฉูุ ููู ูุง ุนูุงูุฉู ููุง ุจุงูู ููุฌูุ ุฅูู ุง ูู ุณูุงุณุฉู ูููุงู ู ูุงุฑุบู.
Some of them get involved in politics, and another party gets involved in another side, one extreme in one direction, and another in the opposite, making these methodological issues when they have nothing to do with the methodology. It is merely politics and empty talk.

What has happened has happened. Engage in knowledge as if you hear nothing, and truly and sincerely engage.

Silence the young and the youth, keep them from delving into the matter; it is for the scholars. If you are sincere, take the advice of the scholars seriously and truthfully, not just words on the tongue with no application, no action, no seriousness in reconciliation.

Restrain your pens and tongues from any involvement in disagreements. Supplicate to Allah and increase your supplication, seek refuge in Allah from trials as the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us to seek refuge in Allah from trials. Stand down.

That is why, when we did not know knowledge, we wanted prominence, we wanted to rule, we wanted leadership.โ

Remember the famous hadith when the Prophet (peace be upon him) spoke about that servant who was praised: "That disheveled, dusty man who holds the reins of his horse. His hair is disheveled, his feet are dusty. If he is in the vanguard, he is in the vanguard. If he is in the rear guard, he is in the rear guard. If he asks for permission, he is not granted it. If he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted."

If you love your brother for Allah, then offer him yourself and your wealth.

When a person reaches the age of puberty, they reach a stage of moral responsibility for their covenant with Allah, which is learning, loving & practicing Islam; Ibn al Qayyim (ุฑุญู ู ุงููู) outlines the reality of moral maturity & how very few ever actually mature; he says (in Al Fawฤโid):
ุฅูุฐูุง ุจูููุบู ุงูุนูุจูุฏู ุฃูุนูุทููู ุนูููุฏููู ุงูููุฐูู ุนูููุฏููู ุฅููููููู ุฎูุงูููููู ููู ูุงูููููู.
โWhen the servant reaches maturity, he is given the covenant which his Creator and Owner entrusted to him.
ููุฅูุฐูุง ุฃูุฎูุฐู ุนูููุฏููู ุจููููููุฉู ููููุจูููู ููุนูุฒูู ู ุนูููู ุชููููููุฐู ู ูุง ูููููุ ุตูููุญู ููููู ูุฑูุงุชูุจู ููุงูู ูููุงุตูุจู ุงูููุชูู ููุตูููุญู ููููุง ุงูู ููููููู ุจูุนููููุฏูููู ู.
If he takes his covenant with strength, acceptance, and determination to implement what is in it; he becomes suitable for the ranks and positions that those who fulfill their covenants are suitable for.

If he shakes his soul upon taking the covenant and spurs it on, saying: I have been prepared for my Lord's covenant; who is more deserving of accepting, understanding, and implementing it than me?!

He first strives to understand his covenant, reflect on it, and know his Master's commandments to him, then resolves to comply with what is in his covenant and act upon it according to its content.

Thus, he perceives with his heart the reality of the covenant and what it entails. He then develops a new resolve and determination different from the one he had in his youth before receiving the covenant.

He withdraws from the darkness of youthful folly and submission to his cultural norms and upbringing and is patient with the honor of high resolve.

He tears away the veil of darkness to the light of certainty, thus achieving, to the extent of his patience and sincere effort, what Allah has granted him out of His grace.

So the first level of his happiness is to have a receptive ear and a heart that understands what the ear hears.

So, if he hears, understands, and the path becomes clear to him, seeing those markers on it, and he sees most people deviating from it to the right and left, he adheres to it and does not deviate with those who deviate, whose deviation was due to not accepting the covenant, or those who accepted it reluctantly without taking it with strength and determination, nor did they strive to understand it, reflect on it, act upon what it contains, and implement its directivesโฆโ
