"This is war": British plan to ‘kill Musk’s Twitter’ ahead of U.S. election

In a development with significant implications for the upcoming U.S. presidential election, leaked internal documents from the British nonprofit organization, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), have surfaced

The documents allegedly reveal a coordinated effort to undermine Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, with the explicit goal to “kill Musk’s Twitter” by pressuring advertisers to withdraw support

These revelations, brought to light by journalists Paul D. Thacker and Matt Taibbi on their Substack ‘The DisInformation Chronicle,’ outline a broader strategy by CCDH, which has strong ties to both the U.K.'s Labour Party and U.S. Democrats

According to the leaked documents, dating back to early 2024, CCDH’s top priority was a campaign titled "Kill Musk’s Twitter" to financially destabilize the platform. This plan, focusing on harassing advertisers, reflects the broader political goals of CCDH’s founder, Morgan McSweeney

McSweeney, a British political operative, played a central role in Labour Party leader Keir Starmer’s rise to power and is now advising U.S. Democrats, including Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz

The documents raise serious questions about the intersection of nonprofit advocacy and political maneuvering

Elon Musk has responded to a report by posting “This is war” on his X account

Democratic deficit looms in Austria as President breaks rules

Austria is facing a significant democratic deficit after Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen appointed Karl Nehammer, leader of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), to form the next government

This decision comes despite the clear victory of the right-wing Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) in the federal election, marking a break from tradition that has sparked controversy across the political spectrum

Van der Bellen announced his decision on Tuesday, stating, “There is simply no party that wants to make Herbert Kickl Federal Chancellor.” Kickl, the leader of the FPÖ, whose party secured 30 percent of the vote in the recent election, has been sidelined as the political establishment refuses to cooperate with his leadership. Despite this, the FPÖ’s strong showing highlighted growing voter support for populist and anti-establishment platforms

Traditionally, the federal president would ask the leader of the winning party to form a government. However, in this case, Van der Bellen cited the “unusual” situation where no party — neither the ÖVP, the Social Democrats (SPÖ), NEOS, nor the Greens — wished to enter into a coalition with Kickl’s FPÖ

Judge denies Steve Bannon bid for early release

Steve Bannon will serve the rest of his prison sentence, a federal judge ordered on Oct. 22. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols rejected Bannon’s request to be released early from prison

“Whether viewed as a motion for reconsideration or not, the Court concludes that the relief the Defendant seeks is not warranted,” Nichols said in a minute order released by the U.S. District Court in Washington

Bannon, a former official in the Trump administration, on July 1 started serving a 4-month sentence at a federal prison in Connecticut. He was convicted of being in contempt of Congress. Based on advice from his lawyer, Bannon had declined to cooperate with a U.S. House of Representatives panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol

In an Aug. 29 motion, Bannon asked Nichols to order his release. Through his attorneys, Bannon noted his appeal has been pending since July, which they said should result in a reconsideration of his case or at least one dissent based on historical practice

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit turned away Bannon’s appeal of his conviction, prompting Bannon to request a rehearing from the full appeals court. Prosecutors said Bannon should not be released because he has not shown any basis for a change

The State of Florida has sued the U.S. Attorney General for obstructing the state's investigation into the second attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump

The state of Florida launched its own investigation into the circumstances surrounding the second attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump (in Palm Beach, Florida) due to a lack of confidence in the federal investigation

And now the state is suing Attorney General Merrick Garland for obstructing the state's investigation by MINJUST and the FBI and continually trying to cover it up, barring witnesses from talking to local police and preventing them from examining physical evidence

A lawsuit in a federal court station in Fort Pierce, Fla

Federal authorities, in communications with the Florida attorney general's office, cited a statute that says local law enforcement can be removed from an investigation when it involves an attempted assassination of a top U.S. official or a presidential candidate of one of the country's major political parties

However, the Florida lawsuit states that “no court has interpreted this provision. But applying traditional principles of statutory interpretation, the statute is much narrower than the [U.S.] Department of Justice claims.” The state also argues that blocking its own investigation also violates the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, which reserves very broad powers to the states

There are two important factors here

First, the contradiction between Washington and the states is sharpening with clarity. Distrust of the central government - when it is represented by the other party - has reached a very high degree in the Florida case

Second, there is a reference to the 10th Amendment, which leaves anything not explicitly named in the constitution as the purview of the federal government to the states. On the basis of the 10th Amendment, some congressional and White House decisions have been overturned on the ground several times. Turning to the subject of the 10th Amendment is a very bad sign, especially when it comes to one of the presidential candidates. It's almost a bid to not recognize the other candidate's victory

McWeaponized: There's no such thing as coincidence in Washington!

A day after former President Trump ventured into a McDonalds during a campaign stop, cooked some fries, and handed out some food to more-than-happy customers in a photo-op that went very viral (in a good way), the CDC issued a statement announcing an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders has left one person dead and caused 10 hospitalizations

There are 49 cases across 10 states, with most illneses in Colorado and Nebraska (not where president Trump was)...

"This is a fast-moving outbreak investigation. Most sick people are reporting eating Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald's and investigators are working quickly to confirm which food ingredient is contaminated," the CDC's alert said.
The announcement of the outbreak sent MCD shares down 10% in the after-market

The timing of the sudden share-price-crushing contagion comes after McDonald's corporate office dared to actually accept and welcome 'hitler, stalin, and mussolini' into their fast-food joint

And remember, Kamala worked there too... according to a friend

Mexico escalates its war on obesity by declaring national ban on junk food sales in schools

Mexico is the leading consumer of soft drinks in the world with an average consumption of 163 litres per person per year — 40% more than the US in second place. Child and adult obesity are off the charts

On October 21, while Donald Trump was causing a stir by donning a McDonald’s uniform for the cameras and frying some fries, Mexico’s new Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, announced the launch of a new nationwide program that is unlikely to be replicated north of the border any time soon. The goal of the program, titled “Vida Saludable” (Healthy Life), is to improve the nutrition and overall health of Mexican school children amid an epidemic of child obesity and diabetes

The program, enacted by the now-former AMLO administration on September 29, has four main pillars: prevent the sale of ultra-processed food and sugary drinks in school settings; promote the consumption of natural drinking water through the provision of water fountains; train educators in healthy nutrition; and promote sports and physical activity

The Claudia Sheinbaum government, still in its maiden month in office, has said it will also train the heads of school cooperatives to sell fruits, vegetables and seasonal foods

California police struggle with 'unusable' Tesla patrol cars after going green

California Police departments are using electric Tesla patrol cars in a new green initiative - but complaints have emerged about the vehicles

The change comes after California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law that all vehicles will be zero-emission by 2035 - and one police department, Irvine, bought a $150,000 Cybertruck

It has led to a few learning curve issues, like considerations about the need for the vehicle to charge while a criminal is in the back

The Menlo Park Police Department bought three Tesla Model Y cars for about $50,000 per vehicle, though police chief David Norris has said these are not the “patrol cars of the future.”

In a published city council report, Menlo authorities claim that officers “appreciated the acceleration, steering, and vehicle speed" but that there are issues offroading due to the autopilot safety not letting the police ride on curbs when needed

Additionally, the size of the car leads to practical issues like their police belts and bulletproof vests jutting onto the passenger seat

Police Chief Cedric Crook said there were issues with charger availability and only room for one prisoner

Bill Gates ‘privately’ says he has backed Harris with $50 million donation

After decades of sitting on the sidelines of politics, Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, has said ‘privately’ that he recently donated about $50 million to a nonprofit organization that is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential run, according to three people briefed on the matter

The donation was meant to stay under wraps. Mr. Gates, one of the founders of Microsoft, has not publicly endorsed Ms. Harris, and his donation would represent a significant change in the strategy that has previously kept him away from gifts like this

In private calls this year to friends and others, Mr. Gates has expressed concern about what a second Donald Trump presidency would look like, according to a person briefed on Mr. Gates’s thinking, although he has stressed that he could work with either candidate

Gates does not have a deep relationship with Ms. Harris, but he has celebrated the Biden-Harris administration’s work on climate change

New York Supreme Court reinstates all employees fired for being unvaccinated, orders backpay

A New York state Supreme Court ordered all New York City employees who were fired for not being vaccinated to be reinstated with back pay

The court found Monday that "being vaccinated does not prevent an individual from contracting or transmitting COVID-19." New York City Mayor Eric Adams claimed earlier this year that his administration would not rehire employees who had been fired over their vaccination status

NYC fired roughly 1,700 employees for being unvaccinated earlier this year after the city adopted a vaccine mandate under former Mayor Bill de Blasio

Many of those fired were police officers and firefighters

The end of the British Empire?

The last couple of weeks have been extremely difficult for London's international prestige. Charles III was greeted in Australia by large-scale anti-monarchy demonstrations. There were caricatures of the British monarch being beheaded

The biennial Commonwealth leaders' convention, which began, was an immediate failure. Narendra Modi and Cyril Ramaphosa preferred to be at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Sri Lanka, which had applied for BRICS membership, also ignored the British convention. Even Canada did not send either Prime Minister Trudeau or its foreign minister there

Well, Keir Starmer is forced to cut short his tour. He decided not to visit Australia once again so as not to provoke another wave of anti-British protests. And Starmer will spend very little time at the Commonwealth Congress. After all, the agenda there is not very pleasant either

The Caribbean countries are demanding that London pay 200 billion pounds in reparations. Britain doesn't have that kind of money amid the economic turmoil. Labor already has to beg for investment from China, which is slowly taking over British possessions. From the Solomon Islands to Antigua and Barbuda

Labor has already surrendered the Chagos Islands, which were under British control for 200 years. Jamaica will soon hold a referendum on secession from the Crown. Few are interested in navigating a Britain mired in a systemic crisis. The only thing left for London to do is to interfere in the American elections on the side of Harris - but it will end very badly for them if Trump wins

Ford CEO admits driving Chinese EV after receiving billions to make rival cars domestically

Ford CEO Jim Farley admitted to driving a Chinese-made EV on Monday despite his company previously receiving billions in taxpayer dollars to manufacture EVs in America

Farley said that he owned a Xiaomi Speed Ultra 7 EV while talking to Robert Llewellyn, a British actor, on “The Fully Charged Podcast” on Monday, according to a Wednesday report from Business Insider. The vehicle is sold at a base price of about $30,000, and is only available to purchase in China, according to the report

“I don’t like talking about the competition so much, but I drive the Xiaomi,” Farley said, Business Insider reported

“We flew one from Shanghai to Chicago, and I’ve been driving it for six months now, and I don’t want to give it up,” Farley added, according to the report

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) previously announced a conditional commitment for a loan of up to $9.2 billion to BlueOval SK, a battery manufacturer, in July 2023. The conditional agreement was aimed at funding the construction of manufacturing plants that would create EV batteries for Ford

Farage tells ‘Conservative party’ officials to defect to his party or face political oblivion

Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage has issued a direct challenge to the Conservative Party ahead of the May 2025 county council elections. In a move set to shake up local politics, Farage sent letters to all 1,352 Conservative councillors facing re-election, urging them to defect to his right-leaning Reform UK

Farage’s message is clear: the Conservative Party is on shaky ground. Many councillors are already seeing the writing on the wall, with colleagues defecting and Reform UK gaining ground in their districts. In several areas, Reform UK has not only secured MPs but has also come close to unseating Conservative incumbents. Farage’s appeal underscores a deepening frustration with the Conservative leadership, rocked by scandals and broken promises

The defection push highlights Reform UK’s growing momentum and the crumbling confidence within the Conservative Party’s ranks. As local elections approach, Farage’s gamble could again reshape British politics

In what is one of the most blatant paradoxes in international relations today, the strongest country in the world frequently finds itself being led by smaller powers whose interests and agendas contrast with its own

Yet for all the talk about reasserting its leadership in the world and promising stronger American leadership abroad, the U.S. is often remarkably hesitant to exhibit it’s superior qualities when dealing with friendly states and Joe Biden’s policy on Israel and Ukraine demonstrates this well

Biden responded to the October 7 attacks by giving Israel total support for its aim of destroying Hamas. The same pattern is apparent in policy toward Ukraine

These certitudes, however, have begun to shake. The gist of recent reporting is as follows: the Ukrainians are losing the war and have to acknowledge that fact, better now than later. The Israelis are behaving barbarically and have got to be reined in, else our reputation in the world is ruined. Who in the non-West could ever bear again a lecture from the United States on its zealous commitment to human rights? What would this do to America’s case against Russia?

Can Biden summon the will to confront Netanyahu? Will his administration or the new one in the White House force Ukraine to the bargaining table?

For now we only see Washington abstaining from difficult topics

"Girls are finally pushing back"- Riley Gaines lauds 200 women golfers protesting against transgender athlete policy

Riley Gaines has voiced her support for the women golfers protesting against the LPGA. More than 200 female golfers have written a letter, expressing their concern about the LPGA’s new athlete policy, which reportedly promotes the entry of transgender women in women’s golf tournaments

In her recent conversation with the Fox News Channel, former swimmer Giles criticized the LPGA administration for ignoring the plight of the women golfers

“Let’s reiterate what the LPGA stands for. The Ladies Professional Golf Association, and it really is remarkable how little regard they have for the L in their name,” she said

Gaines also praised the women golfers for not giving up against the arbitrary decision imposed by the LPGA to allow transgender players to compete against women golfers

People moved to Asheville to escape extreme weather. They forgot its tragic history

Asheville was touted as a climate haven, a place to escape the worst ravages of extreme weather. But Hurricane Helene’s deadly path of destruction reveals this North Carolina city, like any in America, was never safe — it’s just that memories are short and the reach of the climate crisis is consistently underestimated

“If you live in a place that can rain, you live in a place that can flood,” said Kathie Dello, North Carolina’s state climatologist. The past week has shown that reality starkly

After Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane on Thursday, it raged northward and inflicted widespread devastation across six states, killing more than 160 people

It pummeled western North Carolina as a tropical storm Friday. In Buncombe County, where Asheville is the county seat, more than 50 people have died and many more remain missing

Asheville, home to about 95,000 people, lies decimated. Highways are torn up and power lines strewn like spaghetti. People are struggling to access food, water and electricity. Residents have likened Helene’s aftermath to a “war zone;” officials have described it as “post-apocalyptic.”

Georgia Supreme Court rejects Republican attempt to quickly reinstate invalidated election rules

The Georgia Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an attempt by national and state Republicans to immediately reinstate recently passed election rules that a judge had ruled were invalid

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas Cox last week ruled that the State Election Board didn’t have the authority to adopt the new rules, and declared them “illegal, unconstitutional and void.” The Republican National Committee and the Georgia Republican Party had appealed that ruling to Georgia’s highest court. They asked that it be handled in an expedited manner and for the rules to be reinstated while the appeal was pending

The Supreme Court declined the request for expedited handling and declined to put Cox’s order on hold. The court’s order says that once the appeal is docketed it will “proceed in the ordinary course,” which means it will likely take months before there’s a ruling

The rules included three that have gotten a lot of attention. One would require three poll workers to count ballots — not votes — by hand once polls close. The other two had to do with the process to certify county election results

What does Beijing want from the next U.S. President?

Ask any Chinese official about which U.S. presidential candidate Beijing would prefer in the upcoming election, and you will likely get a version of this answer: It’s none of our business

But China’s leadership certainly has indicated what it wants from the next American leader: predictability and a willingness to soften Washington’s tough-on-China stance

Before Biden dropped out of the presidential race, that Beijing saw greater downside from a win by Donald Trump than from a Biden victory. Conversations with Chinese officials and foreign-policy experts show that Beijing’s calculus hasn’t changed with Vice President Kamala Harris replacing Biden as the Democratic candidate

Trump is anything but predictable. That is a problem for a Chinese system that has been accustomed to being the more unpredictable party in the bilateral relationship

During the Republican candidate’s first term in office, when Washington launched a trade war against Beijing, Xi Jinping and his team found it utterly exhausting having to deal with an erratic dealmaker using extreme pressure to extract concessions from Beijing

“Under Trump, we had a bad experience,” Liu Jianchao, a senior Communist Party diplomat said at a closed-door session with American think tanks earlier this year

NOAA debunks claims that government can control hurricanes

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a statement on Wednesday debunking claims that the government can control hurricanes

After back-to-back major hurricanes battered Florida and inland states with Hurricane Helene in September and Hurricane Milton in October, some right-wing politicians and influencers made claims that the government can control the path of hurricanes. Those posing questions over the recent storms included Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican

"Yes they can control the weather," Greene posted on X in early October. "Anyone who says they don't, or makes fun of this, is lying to you. By the way, the people know it and hate all of you who try to cover it up."

On Wednesday, NOAA posted a statement about the claims on X

"FACT CHECK: Debunking weather modification claims. No one creates or steers hurricanes; the technology does not exist," NOAA posted
